Oh well, I really don't like Gabriel Garcia Márquez' The Leaf Storm. It's the only book by him I've ever read, and will probably be the last. The constant shift of narrators annoyed me to no end, and the story itself was completely frustrating. I made myself go through it so I could have solid arguments about why I really disliked it. One of the things that I hated the most about it was that most of the time I felt in an endless white room with tons of fog and I could just hear the character's voices, talking one over the other. Not a nice way to feel!

I've got to admit that I didn't like the book that much, but for different reasons. This is A VERY VERY valid one to do it, which is why I like this post so much. I can see why all of these things would bother you and you're totally right. Either you make it a pure love story and don't mention it being diverse or anything, and you do, and actually put in the work to make that statement true.

I bet she didn't even notice how she was unintentionally ignoring this big culture behind Park, but still, it doesn't make it right. For example, the fact that Park is used as a last name for Koreans was something I didn't know, and exactly the kind of thing that should be included if we're talking about diversity, where the point is not only to say 'Hey, diverse character here', but to actually show how these people live.

All in all, thanks for bringing up this topic, because, even though the author can't go back and change this, maybe it's an opportunity for her, and for other authors to keep in mind how the way they handle 'diversity' can affect their readers.

Yikes! I also feel super paranoid when people unfollow me in twitter. It's not really about popularith or having big numbers, but, like you say the fact that THERE IS A REASON why they no longer want my craziness on their feed. Perfect gifs!!! XD

I must say, that as a native spanish speaker, I prefer reading in the original language. I used to shy away from english, until I had to read The Iron King, by Julie Kagawa in english because there was no translation. I wanted to read that book so bad, so I took a chance. It was hard, but I discovered words sounded way better in their original language.

My friends think I'm a weirdo for reading in english, but it gives me access to a world of books I wouldn't be able to access otherwise. So YES, definitely, translated books, while very much needed (bc some people don't know what they're missing) do lose something important in the way.

LOL. Alienated is in my TBR shelf too! I've read Obsidian, and well, I liked it, but this one sounds like more drama than anything.

Regardless, I'll give it a chance. :)

"Body fluids" Eww. Haha. Loved that part.

Let's see how it goes for me!
