I'm here from the bloggers ball, and glad that I stopped by. I used to work full-time as a journalist until two weeks ago and I quit chiefly because I wanted to focus more on my writing. You would think that being a journalist would be the best training for a writer, but weirdly enough, it didn't work for me at all. The daily deadlines and editing pressures would push any creative ideas out of my mind and I always ended up taking shortcuts with my writing. It did me no favors at all, and I'm hoping this time off will help me get my focus back.
Oh yes, I find that reading about writing AND writing together are so difficult to manage. This morning, for instance, when I woke up, I swore I would continue working on a piece of writing I started yesterday. But I find that I need to read the books that I have accumulated in order to gain some confidence. I wonder if that happens to many people...
Oh, and thanks for stopping by my blog!
My journey as a writer has been similar to yours. I've only just started writing seriously and I find books such as On Writing very comforting. My only worry is that I'll simply read about writing and never really get any significant work done!
