Well said, Sunday. Just remember: when life hands you lemons, make limoncello. And then put the recipe on Pinterest. :-)

I have to wonder, when you make these kinds of statements about bubble wrap, do your sons ever say to you, "Mama, be quiet"?

How is the anklet working out for him/you? I thought I commented on this piece back when it was first written, about how the anklet wouldn't hold my son, but now I don't see it... Anyway, I thought you might find it amusing that after 5 minutes evaluating my one eloper son the Project Lifesaver lady agreed that 2 out of 3 of their bracelets would definitely be no match for my son! Sigh. Guess we're going with the super-heavy-duty leather strap version then. Would love to know how your son tolerated his, and if you're liking the program overall (hopefully you haven't had to call them!). Thanks, Erica.

I read this: http://www.tartx.com/blog/?page_id=233 and it changed my perspective so much that it is the only "button" I have on my blog. There are lots of ways to take a break: post less often, get off of Twitter (gasp!), unsubscribe to the 1000 blogs you might be following and instead just check in when it's convenient, don't do those god-awful chain letter "award" memes, etc. etc. Just my two cents. :-) You've been at it longer than I have, but I just look at it as a marathon rather than a sprint... gotta pace yourself so you don't bonk. Autism moms are so busy and stressed as it is, God knows we don't need the extra pressure of feeling overwhelmed by writing or reading (and commenting on) blogs! All that said, you've proven yourself by writing oodles of brilliant, hilarious posts-- no one's going to forget you! :-)

Oh, this is PERFECTION. Love it!

After reading GM to my sons nearly every single night for 6 years, I finally enlisted a helper: http://www.hallmark.com/online/in-stores/recordab... A recordable version of it (in my voice) that they can "read" to themselves! Best thing about it, is it drastically shortens the time until you get to the gin! :-)

HAHAHA! I totally agree-- and you did it no less than TWELVE times! You must have been one of those rare, oxymoronic "motivated burners". I never met a person who actually went IN to a Dead Show; hot-boxing in the parking lot outside was usually accepted as close enough.

Love your blog so, so much-- and learning that we both went to college in Santa Barbara during the early '90s just brought a wee tear to my eye.

Hi! I see your name everywhere (we must follow a lot of the same blogs), but didn't realize until now that you blog about autism. I so agree with you about those Pollyanna autism bloggers. They make me feel like I'm doing something wrong because I'm not taking rapturous joy in every single stinkin' aspect of my sons' autism. I like to read blogs by parents like me, but only if I can relate, and especially if I can laugh. I'm so glad I found you! So funny that you wrote about trolls, as I just published a video for Scary Mommy about internet trolls today! I think they like to live under the bridges at CafeMom and sites like that where they can do lots of one-stop-shopping. Personal blogs in general don't seem to attract them in as great numbers. I can assure you, you're still relevant without them!

KATU was informed of this event in advance, several times. Autism Speaks is a huge organization; of course they notified all of the media outlets of the walk! They were told that *maybe* the autism walk would get coverage. Hence, my original comment.

No disrespect to this event, but you guys could have also covered the Autism Speaks Walk in Portland yesterday. Hundreds of people went to a lot of trouble to raise money and promote awareness-- it deserved a few minutes of your time, KATU.
