I think the study, instead of showing religion causes people to be less intelligent rather shows that those who are more intelligent are more likely to not subscribe to religious beliefs.

That sounds plausible to me and I think there is enough data to support the position. You and I both know - or at least are pretty sure - that no religion is true and I suspect that more intelligent people are less likely to believe a fantasy to be true.

Excellent post - pretty much exactly what I was thinking when I read about the Tennessee Travesty. America is literally setting it's self up to fail - virtually everything modern depends on science and virtually all of medicine and biology depends on Evolution. Denying the mountain of evidence for its validity is counter productive and will cause actual, lasting harm to the future of America.

A completely useful and worthwhile endeavor. My only wish being that those who will take a religious leader's word for anything, start looking here and learn to ask for evidence before believing.

God can stop thousands of children from starving to death every day, but doesn't. God can stop his priests from raping children, but doesn't. God can stop babies from drowning in tsunami's, but doesn't. God can stop children from being raped and hacked to pieces in Rwanda, but doesn't. God, being almighty, can do any number of things, like make childhood leukaemia disappear, but he couldn't be bothered.

Grace, your god is a sick, sick bastard. No loving person would ever act like your apathetic deity.

And, even worse, a poor atheist child gets tortured to death and then after the poor thing dies, your deity the continues to torture the kid for eternity. What kind of sick, depraved individual do you worship?

Grace, I thank my lucky stars every, single, day that there is no god since the existence of a god that can intervene but doesn't is the most horrible thing I can possibly imagine.

Hows about the almighty, stop his holy men from raping children instead of fixing the fallout afterwards?

And, what @AndyMeanie said. Slowly the 'clergy's' power is being eroded (even though it might never be completely gone) and hopefully this disgusting excuse for a human being as well as the mother get what's coming to them. Bucket loads of.
