I HATE it test or any cognitive ability tests! I know that all schools to band children use them but I still don’t like them. For any child, this is purely a snap shot of a moment in time which is not useful at best and an insult to children at worst. Sorry....I’ve started again!! My own neurotypical child was put in low sets for everything due to a standardised tests and was bored. He told me he mucked around in the test and wrote on it that he spoke Arabic (he doesn’t). Now that is taking his GCSE’s I had to fight to get him out in for the higher maths exam and I failed at getting him entered for triple science -he took the double award. I know that he will have done well in these exams. In August I’m going to go to the school and prove that he is a bright child with his results in my hand (I hope he’s done ok!). All throughout his secondary school they have stated these standardised test results at me when I’ve been into the school saying he’s bored and can he move set. Crazy. I don’t teach in this way with under 7 year olds so why do we do this to developing older children.

You are so right Catie! All the little lies add up quickly but then sometimes the answers are just beyond children as you say. I always thought the tooth fairy/Santa thing was weird (if you think about it). We only go along with these things as they are tradition but they are totally bonkers! #pocolo

When you first published this post Catie, I read it in a rush. Now I’m back with #dreamteam and have time to digest it properly. What a great post! It’s such a hard topic for everyone if their child is bullied or if their child is the bully. At primary level, I think we need to work with all children to ensure that they truly understand what it means to bully. Many children don’t realise they are doing it as they have this type of behaviour modelled to them at home, sadly or they are the child with the super strong personality. I think at secondary level we need to be firmer with teenagers as they know it’s wrong but still guiding them to make good choices. Great post and thanks for the mention!
