Ahh, alright, I was unaware of these instances. My main point there is that you can jump off the corkscrew at least. And on springs, you also instantly go into them now. Before you had to jump on them.

About the scripted sections: he was right actually. In Sonic 1 the tubes do push you, though I agree it is not as good in Sonic Generations. You can also jump off the corkscrew in Sonic Generations, though unfortunately it leads to a giant bottomless pit of death right before the level ends. There is another huge pit at the start of the level, and both are bigger than a whole screen. Erk, even when defending the game I ended up pointing out new flaws.

SEGAbits : Sonic Generations interview with Aaron Webber

A hoy hoy Aaron! Assuming this is actually you. My point on Tails was that he is just a background character. Sure, maybe he is in every background in the game, I do not know. But my main interest is in the game itself. The appeal of Tails being in the games could best be related to Sonic 3/K where you could play as him, do co-op (such as lift Sonic and play with a friend; we even have online consoles now, what a waste), have 2 player races, have unique moves, explore the zones for different flight routes, and so on. You could also see this in Sonic Chaos, Triple Trouble, and Sonic 2 - in reference to the older games. Sonic Generations does not have any of this, so it ruins the appeal for me. If I wanted to just stare at Tails I would buy Archie comics or start demanding a Sonic film/cartoon series. But my interest here is in a video game. I am happy they went back to the classic design, but that is not much for a 20th anniversary game that is supposed to celebrate classic and modern Sonic equally. It is more of a killjoy if anything, and it empties any faith I had left in Sonic Team ever caring about their long-time fans. As for the rolling, I actually fully understand what you mean. The issue here is that the game is designed around bad physics. I just cannot take excuses like 'Oh, it's too late to change it' when I know the game has been in development for years. Yes there was time to make it good and Sonic Team never did it since they either do not care or are incapable of making good gameplay. They saw what DIMPS and whomever did to Sonic 4, they could have started redesigning all the levels then last June, OVER a year ago. Furthermore, I do not like the concept that the whole game is for speed running. The classic games were not like this (Marble Zone, Spring Yard, Scrap Brain, Labyrinth... and I could keep going, this is just one game here). They were more about exploring the zones with vast and creative design. Now it just seems like moving right and doing quick-time jumps in order to get the fastest time. I can see how some people enjoy this, but not me. The original games were not like this, so that is why I find it hard to accept the excuses I am seeing, especially when I saw very similar statements made about Sonic 4. And lastly on the liar comments: I mean what you stated is not true. My first line was supposed to be sarcasm, but I guess sarcasm is harder to judge online, in addition to people probably seeming angrier than they really are (I am not angry at all, just irritated at Sonic Team's designers/programmers). I also wrote it quickly and never even thought about it much. And yes I do appreciate the response and how you try to improve the games, my issue is with who is above you.

@Nack So anyone who dislikes a game you like is a troll? Haha, good luck with that. I am here because I have been a fan of SEGA nearly my entire life, not just Sonic Team. I also do not care what a bunch of Sonic fans from Sonic Stadium or whatnot think about my views. I will stick to the motto: 'SEGA High Quality Computer Video Game'. You can enjoy Sonic Team shovelware.

Well Nack, I still do not take those excuses as legitimate. If it is too late to fix things, Sonic Team should have been working harder earlier in development. As stated before, they had two years to work on this. For them having to juggle two types of gameplay, that again is a design fault. They should have focused on one type instead. If they gave themselves too much work, it is their fault. I never wanted Unleashed gameplay, so it is to no benefit to me. It being there is simply a task to me as I would be forced to play through a game I have no interest in just to play the classic Sonic parts. It should have been two different games (such as a real Sonic 4 and Sonic Unleashed 2). My comment on standards still stands, as well. I want better physics, that means my standards are higher. There are problems with the physics for classic Sonic compared to the Genesis games. This is not my opinion, this is a fact that was pointed out in the interview multiple times. As for the lie comments, I guess you can say that is my view, but when I see someone repeat the same false statements repeatedly I consider them liars. If you like the game, go ahead and buy it. It really does not bother me. But as a long time fan I see it as a joke. A joke trying to take my money.

You can still buy R4s online easily. A few seconds on Google is all it takes. In addition to any other similar device. To me I cannot see how anyone can ban the sale of a blank cartridge/disc/et cetera. If the game is not pre-loaded, then nothing copyrighted is on it. May as well start suing fork manufacturers, someone might get poked.

SEGAbits : Sonic Generations interview with Aaron Webber

@Nack I think you are over reacting to my statements. I never insulted Aaron, I simply stated that he is using the same lies he used in PR about Sonic 4. I know this is his job, but a lie is a lie. Gameplay issues can be fixed, and to say otherwise is simply wrong. Games made in less than a year do not have the issue; fan games do not have the issue. As for the quality of the demo, well that is entirely opinionated. You like it? Fine. I dislike it. I have been playing the games as long as you, so I am not ignorant of how they work. We just apparently have different standards. As for the physics being hard to recreate, I disagree still. 'Retro Sonic' is a game by one person and it is better. Seriously go play the demo of it from 2008 and judge it for yourself: http://info.sonicretro.org/Retro_Sonic As for other franchises, look at games like Kirby Wii (upcoming), Donkey Kong Country Returns, Pacman DX, and Starcraft 2. These are all sequels to old franchises and they all get it right. I cannot excuse Sonic Team when I see others doing it right. Sonic Team is at fault fully. And as a note, all the Genesis Sonic platformers were recreated on Saturn in about a year in Sonic Jam - all with proper physics. It is possible when you have talented staff.

I feel the same way. Even when I was going slower, I ended up bursting into speed by accident, and the levels barely had any exploration. It seemed fully speed-run focused, which is not what I like. I can get the appeal, but exploration and platforming should be there as it used to be.

I could learn what? How to smile all day while mindlessly patting everyone on the back for a job well done? Sorry but the game is bad in my view. It should be criticised, otherwise they will never learn. I am not alone in having these issues. Right now everyone is simply caught up in pre-release hype as usual. I would like for the games to be good, but I am not going to just ignore reality and hand out my money to these people yet again. I have stupidly done that too many times in the past in good faith.

SEGAbits : Sonic Generations interview with Aaron Webber

In response to Scar: I do not develop video games, so not much I guess? I do not think that is a requirement to enjoy video games. Although I watched an interview with the creators of Duke Nukem 3D recently and was impressed by how they play-tested their levels every single day during development. Apparently Sonic Team is incapable of that, which is apparent in all their recent work. As for the rolling, the game should have been designed properly to begin with. Exact examples already exist on Mega Drive, so there is no excuse. They knew it was incorrect the moment they made it. And this is not their first attempt, either. I could also care less about what some bozo over at Sonic Retro thinks. Others there have made near-perfect physics of classic Sonic too, so that counters what you have wrote. I think a fan game called 'Retro Sonic' was the one with very accurate physics, made by just one person in his free time if I recall correctly. This game's development started right after Sonic Unleashed, if not during, which is plenty of time (at least 2 years) to develop a good game. Instead we get broken core gameplay yet again. It is quite clear that they were intent on focusing on Unleashed gameplay, which I should point out that I am not interested in (so you can see how I value the game). As for the Tails comment, you should re-read what I quoted from the interview. Unless you are implying I should like Sonic games for the cutscenes, which is not the case for me. I can enjoy them, but YouTube is sufficient for that. I do not need to pay 65 dollars to view cutscenes.
