I have all teeth too, although they're not labeled or anything, they're just in one of those plastic tooth boxes that schools send home teeth in when they fall out there (and that's a poorly constructed sentence that I'm too lazy to rewrite). I agree with Jennifer that it's not that unusual to keep them. That photo's a bit odd though. ;)

I also loved Henrietta Lacks, such an amazing and powerful story. I also really enjoyed Falling Together, I'm a big fan of Marisa de los Santos.

Thank you, I really needed that laugh today. What idiots.

A while ago we got rid of our cable-based phone and bought an Ooma. It uses VOiP or some such magic, and it was a one-time charge instead of a monthly bill. Well worth the money. One of the things this magic box does is logs all phone numbers that call, and we can then login to our account and block numbers. We still get 3- or 4-second messages on the voicemail, but at least the phone doesn't ring. We can also add names to numbers, so if there are 800 or 888 numbers we may want to hear from (organizations we do donate to) we can add their name so we know who's calling.

The swimming hole one cracked me up too. I take it you're not familiar with The "Blog" of "Unnecessary" Quotes? http://www.unnecessaryquotes.com/

Grammatically incorrect signs drive me nuts too.

I'd say you had a pretty good month for "lackluster!" Nice wide range of books as well. :)

I don't like the term color-blind because kids do notice the difference between themselves and their peers. Maybe color-indifferent is a better way to put it. My kids don't care what color their friends' skin is, if they're tall or short, thin or not-so-thin. And I don't think my kids are an exception (exceptional, of course ;) ).

I grew up in a very white town with one black kid in our class. My high school, however, was in a neighboring small city and was extremely diverse and I had many black, Hispanic, Indian and other non-white friends. But I had the same college experience as SSS that the groups chose to self-segregate, and it was shocking to me.

I'd have to think Red's experience as a majority-minority won't be that much different from areas where the minority really is the minority (if you follow that logic!). Our neighborhood school has a handful of black or mixed kids and they don't seem to have a problem fitting in. But I can see why the subject would give you pause as well.

I'd really like to read Phantom, it's got great company on my TBR list but someday! Happy reading this month.

I read each of the Potter books as they came out, but I'm in the middle of re-reading them. Book 5 is up next and I really need to make an effort to put it on the list!
