It looks like a lot of stocking stitch - my brain starts to switch off and then after a while I feel like I'm going steadily mad if I knit lots of it! I really need something like that for me and Anna, but I have a feeling I'm going to go with the cut two holes in a blanket approach - not as pretty as yours, but I'd get it finished (the biggest knitting/crochet project I've ever finished was a baby blanket - I've never even finished a cardi for myself!)

Oh you have quite some patience to have made a babywearing poncho - I don't think my hands could take the strain! I look forward to seeing a pic of the {C}loud being worn :-)
