Inquirer News : Aquino brushes off call for his ousting

I'm neither pro Noynoy or anti-Noynoy but I'm find it amusing that, ever since Cory, if a newly elected president supposedly under performs during the first year, people groups call for an ouster. Now, imagine if this happened then it means we'd already have 25 presidents in the same number of years. We're similar to several countries in the African continent and look where those countries are now, in the doldrums. Sad.

Inquirer Opinion : Senators handle bishops with silk gloves

IMO, Miriam has shown how low she can go in the past. While I do admire her guts, here amusing tirades and knowledge of the law, her being a typical trapo is a total turn-off. As for her credibility, Ias long as people continue to vote for her and she wins, then technically her "credibility" with her voters is intact.

Inquirer News : Bedol surfaces, says order was to give Aquino, Lacson, Cayetano zero votes

This might not be entirely true. Me thinks that GMA and Mike Arroyo both maintain "connections" where they can pull strings from to threaten Bedol. Most of us don't like GMA and MA but they aren't idiots - they are shrewd operators and like most shrewd operators, they would know how to cover their behind or have somebody take a "hit" for them. I just hope that whatever expose Bedol and Ampatuan bring out, there is absolute truth to it and the government will act on it.

Inquirer News : CBCP seeks no apology from PCSO

"Funds used to give millions to those bishops were taken from charity fund, does anyone else think it was wrong? I think so.

The press always sensationalizes news and it won't be the first time they do it. We all know that the press will, at times, cut out portions of statements or interviews to make the news more sensational. I think if the press sticks just to brick and mortar reporting, the news won't sell because it will not immediately get the interest of the people. Is this style bad? I believe, to some degree, it is.

Inquirer News : Bishops return controversial PCSO vehicles

The root of these bishops problems is politics i.e. their connection to a politician. Had these vehicles or the money used to purchase the vehicles been given by a private citizen or politician with whom the people have a high respect for, then the furor might not have been this big. Politicians will always be politicians. They're like vines. They will cling to or wrap around a tree that the vines know/feel will be beneficial to it. There are vines that give back to a tree but there are vines that kill the tree.

I think wining against these NBA players is just a 2nd or maybe even 3rd objective. What the Philippine team would want to do is learn from what they will experience when they do get to play with these NBA folks. If tne Gilas team manages to win, it would be a bonus.

Inquirer News : Bishops tell Gloria Macapagal Arroyo: It’s time to explain

Of course it would be the Arroyo allies. it would be the logical thing to happen. GMA can't depend on neutrals or those against her to bail these bishops out for her so that she can save whatever good name she has left. But the way politics moves, everything has a price and an equivalent - and a debt to pay. Speaking of debt, "utang na loob" or debt of honor is the hardest thing to pay because it is not quantifiable and since Atienza and other GMA allies all have huge "utang na loob" to pay, they'd stick their balls out to be licked by sick goats if need be just to "save" Arroyo.

It's not about returning the vehicles - it's about the inappropriate behavior and character that was behind these acts. If this case were thievery, even if the thief (I'm not saying the bishops are thieves - can't say the same to GMA) returns what he stole, it doesn't make up for the crime he has committed. One can be forgiven for a sin, but he/she has to pay for it in the end. What I found amusing - but typical - is the pointing of fingers to GMA i.e. ikaw naman magsalita, kasama ka dito. While I do see the logic of having a "witness" testify for the bishops, I think it won't serve them well unless GMA and past PCSO folks tell the absolute, beyond the shadow of the doubt truth. Will they do it? Hard to tell but if I were GMA (which I'm glad I am not), why should I implicate myself? She'd probably leave those bishops hanging by their lonesome to dry. Why do a drive to collect enough money to bail these bishops put? In my opinion, these bishops got themselves into this mess let them bail themselves out of it. AFAIK, the Catholic church has lots of resources that may be used to return the money to PCSO. Then again, it would be better if the Church use these resources for charity work instead of bailing these bishops out. If good souls are willing to dole out money to help these bishops, I respect that and admire their kind heart. I just hope that the collection doesn't go into someones pockets or someone gets a hefty kickback/collector's fee out of it.

Good points! I think it would just be a matter of discretion i.e. when to intervene (for sanctions) or not. I've worked for companies that did what you said but I've also worked for companies that let their Senior Managers sort out the problem BUT kept a watchful eye on them.

"Does this not go up to the Vatican???" -4th Idiot I think not as the Vatican will most probably let the leadership of the Catholic churches here in the Philippines resolve this issue among themselves. Think about it as a company that has erring Senior Managers/VPs. The board and CotB will probably take note of what has happened and follow its progress BUT not intervene and let their managers sort the problem out for themselves. The board and CotB will only intervene if they see a "clear and present danger" to the business and/or company name.

If the farmers do get land, I just hope they don't sell it off to the highest bidder for "development" as factories or subdivisions. The Philippines is (arguably) primarily an agricultural nation yet we are losing land for agriculture. When I was young, my province (Bulacan) and the town where I grew up in was full of farm lands. Now, my home town has lost most of it's agricultural land to factories who are polluting the rivers or to subdivision developers.

Inquirer News : Bishop Juan de Dios Pueblos asked Gloria Arroyo for a car as b’day gift

Again, I ain't defending Pueblos but 4x4 vehicles are used by NGOs, civic organizations and church-based organizations all over the world to serve the poor. Due to work I did in the past, I rode 4x4's in remote areas here in the country and in some of the poorest, remote communities in Asia and in Africa. 4x4 used as utility vehicles to serve poor people or to serve people in emergencies at remote and far-flung areas (where there is no real road) is normal. I think what is egging anger in most of us is that Pueblos had the gall to ask GMA for an "expensive gift". Like I said, I don't know Pueblos and maybe I don't care to know him but if he really did something wrong, it would bite him in the arse one day.

"You NEED an SUV to get around to remote places when there are no roads..." - lamao9 I'll tend to side with lamao9 on this one. Not that I am defending Pueblos (I never met him, I don't know him, perhaps I don't want to know him) but while there are well-paved roads in CARAGA, there are places there that are only reachable by 4x4 - especially during the rainy season. What most tourists see in CARAGA when they travel are the usual tourist spots that have well paved roads but there are really remote places where there is practically no road but a dirt/muddy trail.
