Aww, this post really made me smile!! As Deborah said what a wonderful experience for all of you xxx

I think I would cope better with living in Japan too if I had a set in stone return day... despite being here now for 6 years I am still struggling with homesick. If my husband would leave his job and move to Australia with me I would be gone in a instant... my family at home means so much to me and I hate that they are missing out :(

Hence the 3 month long stays XD

Oh Alyce, so many of your missed foods are on my list too... I love smith's salt and vinegar chips, chocolate bullets, vegemite and ice breakers. Iced coffee over here tastes nothing like the Aussie stuff!! I always buy Aliens lollies when I am home too - especially red frogs, snakes, strawberries and cream!

I am going back to Australia in 3 weeks (YAY!) for 3 months (EVEN BIGGER YAY)... I can't wait to be amongst my family, eating yummy foods I have been craving for so long and experiencing a beach filled Aussie summer again!

Christmas is usually over the afternoon of Christmas here (well in my area actually!)... it sucks :(

We are 6 weeks into toilet training with Leilah. She still has accidents on occasion - especially if we are out and about or she is playing outside.

We started with her not wearing any undies at all. Then when she did wee/poo it went everywhere, she got dirty and she didn't like it. I think that helped. Then like another commenter said we got her some really cute undies that she really wanted to wear - so that if she did have an accident she was dissapointed that she couldn't wear them.

We were using chocolate as an incentive and that really worked as Leilah doesn't get chocolates/lollies at all usually.
My only piece of advice is to keep giving those incentives for a long while after you think they have got it. I made the mistake of getting rid of the chocolate too early and Leilah regressed back to weeing/pooing wherever she wanted. I started them again - this time though she only gets a sticker for wees and a smartie for a poo - and lo and behold she is going again.

He'll get there :) Just like Leilah will... lol

Awww, this post I can relate to so much. Just the other day I asked on FB what makes a mum a good mum because I was feeling similar to I guess how you are feeling now. I sometimes think my kids deserve someone better than me - someone who will do all those extra activities with them, who doesn't yell or scream when frustrated and who isn't on the computer as much as I am. But everyone quickly pointed out that by worrying about being a good mum shows that you are in fact a good mum.... so from one mum who understands to another, hang in there!

Awww, it is hard, I know...

It was really hard when I had both of my kids. I wanted to my family to be there so badly. It's something I am yet to get used to. I hate knowing my kids are growing up without their Aussie family around. But as Rhonda said Skype is fantastic. We skype with my mum twice a week and my sister once a week. Leilah has a fantastic relationship with my Aussie family because of Skype and I hope Kai will too...

Congratulations to your sister btw. What an exciting time for her!

Aww, no!!! But what a funny story to be able to tell your kids about the time you got you hair cut in Japan!

Hi Alyce,

I'm a good friend of Lulu (Laura M) and have occasionally come over and read your blog. I just wanted to say hi :) I see your name pop up over and over again on various groups on facebook but because I don't live close we haven't had the chance to meet. I hope one day, maybe when I'm visiting Laura, we can meet up :)

My daughter too has been waking up at 5am (or earlier) since it has gotten warmer. Not sure what it is though because her room is dark and she has the air con on... I don't deal with sleep deprivation very well at all :( It makes me such a grumpy mummy :( It sucks, doesn't it!
