ahh what a lovely brunch. and so true, brunch is indeed the classy man, or classy woman's breakfast. also a great hangover meal (not classy) and a great lazy meal (two-for-one). never been to locanda verde, but looks great. speaking of olive oil cake have you had the olive oil loaf from abraco? seriously stellar.

korean corn is a type of multi-colored corn that has REALLY chewy kernels... after looking it up online, i guess it's called indian corn/maize or even glutinous corn - it looks like this : http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/c/cd/Boi... ; refer to chowhound discussion here: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/292437#1596129 i love the do-it-yourself almond butter machine at whole foods, super quick and fresh, and i add in my own sea salt and honey... i also love barney butter, which has a different consistency than any other almond butter i've had (more like peanut butter consistency)

ilana! love the little backstory on you. as for me, natalie, student (last year!) 2 homes: south bay area / cambridge i would like to travel to iceland / greek islands / new zealand favorite food(s): thinly sliced and toasted kommisbrot with tahini + orange marmalade with a huge cup of jasmine tea. also, almond butter, smooth & creamy avocados, local honey, roasted kabocha squash, korean corn, and fried, candied lotus root. i love rustic simplicity in general,, but Millennium in SF will probably be my favorite for awhile. This past year I also enjoyed Public in New York, Foreign Cinema in San Fran, Garden in the Cellar in Cambridge,Tender Greens in San Diego, Cafe Brasil in Santa Cruz, and always Hi-Rise Bakery in Cambridge. Ok Sofra Bakery is amazing too. But if we're spanning internationally, I will always think fondly of Ottolenghi breakfast in London, Rose Bakery in Paris, and the comforting vegan food of La Raccolta in Florence, Italy. You've got me way too excited. I need to stop. Dying to try the foie gras banana bread terrine at Seasons in Rhode Island. Also fresh mustard from the French countryside (from Dijon, France!). I want to make pop tarts.

http://italktofood.com/ : 2 words: i am happy.

It makes me happy to hear how happy you are. Someone once told me that it's pretty useless to be thinking about how happy were in the past or how happy you will be in the future, because in the moment, neither of those things exist. the only happiness we can really control is the happiness we have right now - believing and acting on that has really changed my life!

Mason jars ftw - I totally use them for everything too. Utensil storage? check. For microwaving random things? check. For eating out of when all of my other dishes are dirty? Check. Love it! Favorite childhood food... I loved corn with ketchup (like frozen corn, defrosted, not like corn on the cob corn).

http://italktofood.com/ : i want to know ALL about you.

We are sandwich soulmates. After all, those sandwiches I listed are pretty particular ones and I know more than one person who would gag at the thought of either. Not that those people are relevant in this discussion - glad you like 'em too =) so YES we should go to Saltie together ;) I'm in nyc every now and then... I lived in Brooklyn for one summer too! Also, you DEFINITELY should move to California. I'm not even going to pretend that I'm not biased on that issue. I'm thinking either Oakland/Berkley for myself. Dream job would probably be some kind of visual design job that was creative and entrepreneurial... I'm kind of interested in working for a start-up - not necessarily glamorous, but I think what's so special about start-ups is that you HAVE to dream big... you start from nothing and try to make EVERYTHING - and I LOVE that. And thanks - love your blog as well! I can definitely relate to a lot of the personal issues you blog about - and you have such a great writing voice!
