Nice Lisa! Iam so glad there are other unenlightened yogis out there. I've been revelling in being myself for a few years now, despite my sometimes quite tragic flaws :)

Awesome, Lindsey!
It's all Shiva-like: from death came rebirth. How often (always?) does that happen for us, if we are willing to ride the waves?

Your prose is lyrical.

Gorgeous! It's amazing, the transformation that yoga can bring. It lifted me out of anxiety, depression, post traumatic stress, and eating disorders.

Don't get me wrong, I needed more than just yoga. But yoga was the touchstone for me. Still is. Every day.

Brilliant post Poornima! And I think most yoga teachers need to hear this, over & over....

We learn the hard way, the ones who stay in business & thrive. I know I did.
And I am getting sooooo tired of hearing teachers say you can't earn a living teaching yoga. You CAN. You just need to learn the business skills.

Interesting conversation: it's something that bothers me, too. I am a teacher without a brand. I like it that way. But it makes it really hard to explain to people what 'my' yoga is.
Brands make yoga, and everything, easier to pop into a box and categorise, and that's how we humans understand the world.

That said, I, like Michaelle, have been injured in branded yoga, and that's why I teach the way I do. I also have massive problems with authority, especially if I suspect it hasn't been earned. So there's that.

Thanks for opening up the debate, Mary!

Nice one, lady. I find yoga cracks me open in much the same way as it does you.

Although I no longer practice Ashtanga, the almost-decade in which I did was a one of getting strong, and getting over a lot of my own shit. So I could do some deep emotional healing.

Hehe Gena! You are as wrong as me! I heart it. My boyfriend really is amazingly wise - like a labrador, on a bike (maybe don't tell him I said that...

Nice article, Jenifer, and interesting comments. Amen, in fact, to what you say. Yoga is unhooked from any specific religion, although the practices of yoga have been incorporated into a good few :)
