Oh fuck me, I had completely blocked Gooey Gus from my memory due to terrified hatred (combined with having blocked the latter episodes of Ghostwriter, sorry Casey and Hector but you just didn't cut the mustard.) Anything that wraps you in a cocoon was awful to me. I also used to have nightmares about those cotton candy cocoons from Killer Clowns from Outer Space, a film which as an adult isn't even remotely scary.

The best thing I've ever eaten is too hard to pin down this morning, but I can tell you the best salad I've ever eaten (yes!) It's a steakhouse salad I get like once a week at a local restaurant, which is a healthy piece of sirloin grilled to order (so RARE AS BLOOD), your standard mixed greens, cherry tomatoes, crispy fried shallots, chopped up roasted asparagus when it's in season, ROASTED POTATOES (did you know you could put potatoes on a salad???) and a blue cheese horseradish vinaigrette which I think is basically a red wine vinaigrette with blue cheese and horseradish but it's prefect stuff. I have dreams about this salad.

Yeah, that is not a good seller for me. I love my family and everything, but the idea of even an afterlife/existing forever is something I find very discomforting. I'd like a nice stopping point; a real cut to black. I find the idea of a loved one hoping they can wake me up someday/see me again wherever or vice versa instead of just moving on with their memories somewhat depressing. I know it's not a frequently discussed viewpoint and may carry some stigma, but I can't imagine I'm entirely alone in that.

There was an write for thekitchn who for a while was documenting her quest to make her daughter sugarless birthday cakes. For her first birthday they served a wheel of cheese (?) and for her second or third she made some sort of "Red Velvet" beet loaf with goat cheese frosting. FOR HER CHILD'S BIRTHDAY. A CHILD SHE CLAIMED TO LOVE. She did this in public at large gatherings. I have never felt such horror for a child in my life.

I am always impressed by what the urbane find fanciful and will truly believe about rural life, like the greatness of "hermits" and the past-time of cow-tipping. Side note, but does anyone watch Finding Bigfoot or similar?
