I haven't seen Fly Away From Home, but that sounds pretty good from a description I read. I also think ET would work for Fluttershy if she can get through the terror-inducing nightmare that is the first 30 minutes. Seriously, I couldn't bring myself to watch that movie all the way through til I was in middle school.

We finally figured out why this was getting auto-modded. It's the word "c0ckney." We replaced the "o" with a "0." Be aware of this if you want to talk about this colorful English accent.

-Twilight Sparkle: Citizen Kane- I know the goal is to get the ponies excited about humanity, but Twilight in particular studies the nature of friendship and things that get in the way of it. Citizen Kane is a movie that is all about how one person ruined his life because he thought power and material desires could get him anything, including friendship. Of all the ponies, Twilight would want to get in our heads the most. She would want to see what humans value and I can think of no better movie I have seen that shows how humans lust for power even though they also know the value of friendship.

The historical tie-ins might go over her head though. "Who's that guy with the square mustache at the beginning with Kane? What's the Spanish-American War?"

-Pinkie Pie: Monty Python and the Holy Grail: I imagine this will be a popular choice, but I think she'd love this film. It's so random and even if you know nothing of the Grail stories it lampoons, it's almost better because it makes the whole thing all the more random and ridiculous. Compared with my other picks, this explanation may seem pretty shallow, but I think Pinkie loves to laugh so much that this would give her plenty to enjoy. The humor may be dark for her, but I get the feeling Pinkie knows about dark humor and is simply considerate enough to know the time and place.

-Applejack: The Swiss Family Robinson (1960): I'm almost ashamed the first movie I thought of for her has "family" in the title. We want to see AJ defined by more than just her family, and we've gotten more of that over the course of the show. But there's no denying that family is very important to AJ and this film does an excellent job of portraying a loving family in an interesting situation. Through resourcefulness, ingenuity, and good humor, the Robinson family must survive on a deserted island with a variety of exotic wildlife, all while fending off pirates. It's a fun movie and one I remember dearly from my childhood.

-Rainbow Dash: Avatar (James Cameron): Yes, it's Dances with Wolves in space, and yes, the back of the DVD pretentiously calls itself "the greatest adventure of all time," but I love this movie as an action sci-fi thriller. It is visually impressive, has great action, and really broadened my horizons about what the future might be with creating new bodies to inhabit. I think Dash loves adventure stories the most of all the ponies and this is a fine one that might broaden her imagination. It also is close to something she did in the show. Dash was the pony that stayed with the buffalo overnight in Over a Barrel. I think she would identify with being among a people that feel threatened by people coming to exploit their land without permission.

Runners up for Dash: Obviously, Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark. I decided against this for two big reasons. One, I wanted to give Dash variety. Yes, she may be super stoked to see our Daring Do, but if I could only give her one thing, it'd be something different. Two, I think the three original Indiana Jones movies are inseparable. Seeing one would only leave her hankering for more. Star Wars is also in the same boat. You need to see all of the originals. I also thought about The Avengers, but the trouble with that is you need to see the movies leading up to it.

Continued next post.

Edit: I'm having a very hard time getting my next part up. It keeps saying "Deleted by the administrator" or not showing up at all.

I see it.

I had a bad feeling after not hearing about this movie for so long. It's a shame. I was really hoping to see a gorgon portrayed positively for once. I'd really like to know what these creative differences were. Something tells me Sony wanted this to be more like Frozen. Both are about a misunderstood girl that lives in isolation with her power, so they're already similar. Maybe Sony wanted to make the character more marketable and wanted to compromise Faust's vision to do so?

Either way, if the movie still sees the light of day, I hope it is still good.

That's indeed true. I think the issue for me is distinguishing that we're talking about changing who you are as opposed to just changing your appearance. From my perspective, I don't match what I identify as, so it's very difficult for me to imagine changing who I am. I've never had the opportunity to truly make the outside match the inside. But for cisgender (God, I feel like a tool using that term. I know many of you are sick of it.) individuals, changing who you are may not sound that unthinkable because you've been there, done that, so to speak.

Thanks for the input!

That's perfectly understandable. We can't truly understand how others feel. Thank you for coming to this with an open mind! It's wonderful to have a genuine discussion online without it devolving into trollish behavior.

That's a genuinely good point about Sunset Shimmer too. Is she trans-species? There's a fanfic waiting to be written about that (if it hasn't been already).

I think I see what you are asking. The question could indeed be about literally changing gender, but allow me to give two example answers if the question intended gender to mean self identity and not appearance.

"Yes, I would want to change my gender because I have always wanted to be a completely different person. I think it would be fun to think of myself as a girl."

"No, I do not want to change gender because I like who I am. I'd be fine with looking like a girl, but I will always identify as male."

I hope that helps show the difference. If the question means what it says and people answered with the correct understanding of what gender means, the answers wouldn't have anything to do with what you look like after the transformation.

So going to the issue of changing species being like changing gender, I need more information on what you mean. Do you mean looking like a pony or identifying yourself as one? If you mean looking like one, then it is not comparable to changing gender because it is possible to look like anything and still identify as anything else. If you mean somehow changing how you identify to be a pony, it is directly comparable.

I hope this helps. I enjoy talking about this subject because it was difficult for me to understand at first but I think understanding the distinction helps a lot of people that suffer from being forced to conform to their sex out.

Thanks for prefacing! As you can see from at least one of the replies, this topic attracts people that are strangely aggressive about the subject. It also attracts genuine discussion worth having, and I welcome that.

I identify as human. I don't really have an idea of what another sentient species is like other than through media I discovered later in life. That said, I'd love to try out being one. Others may feel differently and that's awesome. Perhaps we'll develop physical avatars in the future so we can make the world more interesting.

It's not that I'm upset. It's just that the question is misleading.
