That was what I was going to say - reading the synopsis - that this is the British, less scandalous version of Madame Bovary!

I signed myself up for the Outlander series reading challenge this year, exactly because I've heard people raving about it. I started Outlander and I got bored 20 pages in. Maybe there's something wrong with me, but there's something about Scotland that just bores me. Maybe the fact that I've been there? As for the too many bedroom scenes - those are pretty well known and knowing about them put me off even more. I'll probably will try to read the first book once again, but must admit I'm not that keen, however much I hate the idea of dropping out of a challlenge. Some things are just not ethical!

This will my year of tackling War and Peace - I had a brainwave to read about the Napoleonic War before I picked it up and there's book written specifically if you are going to read War and Peace: Russia Against Napoleon by Dominic Lieven (http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/7045965-russia-against-napoleon)

this is all incredibly sexist, I don't see men getting humiliated in any of these programs.
