True love has no agenda.

Saw the following graphic yesterday, and this post reminded me of it.

Once I deconverted I realized that prayer was more a method for thinking through situations, and a coping mechanism in times of strife. Even when I believed I knew that prayer was no guarantee that what I was praying for would come true, and I seldom prayed for things, but more for guidance, which usually came because I was thinking through whatever situation I was in.

When I was still a Christian I was no fan of corporate worship and rituals, but I had my own rituals and mantras that I had come up with that kept me focused. Coming from a protestant background, the rosary has always baffled me, at least the words anyway, but the beads have always been interesting to me, and they are found in other faiths too. I think rituals can be a great way to keep us focused whether we are religious or not.

13 years ago @ RagingRev - An Aversion to Labels · 0 replies · +1 points

My problem with labels has to do with people's reactions to them. "I like candidate John Doe." "Well, I hate him he's a right wing whacko!" And the discussion ends. Too often people have a difficult time seeing beyond the labels, and sometimes they just don't want to.

That said, I am an atheist, but I generally say Atheist leaning Agnostic, because that helps some people more fully understand my beliefs, or lack there of. Further, I tack Sympathetic onto the front of that label and point people here: http://triangulations.wordpress.com/2009/08/22/sy...

I have no issue with white lies at the correct time. However, white lies can lead to major embarrassment, just watch the first few episodes of American Idol each season and see people who have been told they can sing, get embarrassed by the fact that they can not.

And of course, no one blames Germans for lying to Nazis about Jews hidden in their basements.
