I don't have to deal with ridiculous covers too often, since I read nearly exclusively on my Kindle now. That's a good thing since I'm in a romance novel club and you're right. Romance covers can be freaking awful! I don't know why those covers are so popular in the genre. My guess is it's either super ingrained despite people disliking them or that lots of people actually do like sexy covers and aren't embarrassed by them. I don't like to walk around with an ugly or sexy cover on my books but I try not to let it stop me from reading something I'm interested in!

I really need to read this. I adore the cover and I keep seeing it around. I'm going to add it to my TBR shelf right now!

I agree about all of these. Cover changes don't bother me too often, only because I tend to buy my books in ebook form. But I do hate when my physical books on my bookshelves don't match within a series. Absent parents is another syndrome going on in YA. I understand that it's often hard to have your character doing what you want with parents getting in the way but it's really unbelievable that every single freaking teen has no parents or parents that are "out of town" all the time.

Names bother me too. Four didn't bother me but I've read many a book where the names are just weird and seem like they're trying too hard. I don't mind weird names if they work but it's hard to make them work. If they're too weird or out of place they're just distracting. And my biggest pet peeve is love triangles. I HATE them. Yeah, I've read books that I like that have them and there are some that I personally am interested in, but they're the exception to the rule. In general, I can't stand love triangles. I am so tired of people fighting over one girl and I especially hate it when the romance overtakes the entire story. If I wanted that I'd read a romance novel!

Well, I'll tell anyone who will listen about my blog. But, then again, I don't actually want my real life family and friends to read my posts...Haha! I just want them to look at it and move on I guess. I'm too self conscious to picture them reading what I wrote and possibly finding errors. I talk about my blog all of the time with my husband and I did do a guest post from him, but I also got him to promise not to read any of my posts.

Thinking about my family reading my blog and finding things that I missed or are wrong is daunting to me. I don't care as much about strangers reading though. I try to be more outgoing on the internet because, like you, I'm shy in real life. I don't think I do that well with social interaction online either, but I do feel more comfortable rambling on and joking around if I'm on my blog versus being in person with people.

As far as I can see, I haven't read any of these series in the first place. I saw a couple that I wanted to check out though. I don't blame you for dropping them! There's a lot of books just on that list, not to mention whatever series you're still reading. There's only so much time. You might as well read only what you're still interested in. :)

I love reading reviews but I am the type who typically doesn't read a review before I read a book. When I'm browsing people's blogs, I will always click on a review for a book that I read. And I will occasionally read reviews of books that I hear a lot about or were particularly curious about. In general, though, I don't read reviews until I'm done.

It's for all of the reasons you mentioned. I don't want spoilers, even if it's something small. And I don't want people's opinions to flavor mine before I even start. I do read reviews immediately after I finish a book though.

Reviews are still important for readers though because I'm sure there are tons of people like you who do read reviews to find out if they want to try a book. And just the fact that there are reviews will draw attention to books that you didn't know about. I also will occasionally read reviews ahead of time if it's something I'm on the fence about and then I appreciate 1 star reviews just as much as you. It's good to see people who are critical.

I agree with your assessment. I loved everything about this book but the romance and the love square brought my rating down a bit. I hate love triangles as it is so having two pairs of potential lost interests annoyed me. And I didn't think the romance was realistic or done well enough. But the world building was fantastic and I loved everything else about it, especially the historical influence and the darkness of the world.

I think this book series as a tv show is the most popular pick this week! :) I haven't read it yet but I intend to. I agree that a movie isn't typically long enough to include everything. A tv show definitely works better!

I've only been blogging since January but I feel like I'm reading about myself with this post. I'm exactly the same way. When I was a kid, I read constantly. I would carry a book around with me and I loved walking and reading at the same time, like Belle in Beauty and the Beast (my favorite movie of all time, btw). When I was older, in high school and college, I read but I read less often. And then I'd get into stages of either not reading at all or reading for a good long white without doing much else. But, now that I'm blogging, I'm reading constantly. I have to read a book at all times and I usually finish a book every two days or so. I'd finish more if I had more time.

And I also put more thought into how I feel about the books I read. I put my rating on Goodreads immediately after finishing the book but I usually wait a week or so to write the review and I'll often adjust the rating before I finish the review. It's helpful to think about the book for awhile and see how you feel about it after reading something else and looking back.

I've also been reading a ton more YA than usual. I love YA but I used to read a lot of historical fiction. Now I read mostly YA because I see so much of it around and I get excited about those series versus other genres I see less about. I do miss reading historical fiction a bit but I enjoy reading what everyone else is reading so I can be in on the conversations. Haha!
