We aren't being paid to be here. You are. So, if you are going to come to me, one of your users, and ask me to drop everything to make your day run a little more smoothly, I'm going to say "no" and express amazement at your nerve, your absolute chutzpah - and then do nothing.

Will the widget break down? If it does, fine. I'll just turn off comments, but this stuff with "put it in, haul it out, jump when we say jump" is over, as far as I'm concerned. As a user, I find I'm spending more time dealing with you folks, Webring, my homepage provider (or whoever else feels like being a pain, at the time) than I get to spend doing any actual writing, and I'm really tired of that, tired enough that I'm going to set some limits and not give a damn about how you or anybody else feel about them. I really strongly suspect that I'm not alone in this.

Like the rest of this industry, you folks need to get this clear - you can't just help yourselves to a chunk of our time, just any time you wish. You need to start acting like that time is worth something, and handholding doesn't cut it.
