Diary of A Mad Freelancer : Dude, Your Website Needs a Blog

While I certainly understand the arguement for having a blog, I think there are exceptions to this rule. I was discussing the idea the other day with a fellow freelancer who currently doesn't have one. She also doesn't write much for "clients"–she is mostly interested in write for magazines. So she has a blog, and she has a website, but the blog has nothing to do with writer, per say. And I think that's okay, because it illustrates that she can write, should a magazine editor want to know, and her portfolio speaks for itself. I think the key to deciding IF you need a blog is considering who your customer is and what information they want/need. My recent post Lend a Hand

The Bitch Blog : Dear Ms. Bitch: Three’s Company

Um, yeah. My roommate and I have this problem with HER boyfriend. UGH. Fortunately it's not every week... but there are def. weeks where he spends more time at our house than at his. And one day this week (they are teachers and are on spring break) he was there for a WHOLE DAY while she wasn't; not only that, but she wasn't coming home that night. WEIRD.

http://freefreelancewritingtips.blogspot.com/ : Web Content Writing vs. Journalism

I think there are other differences too - Investigative journalism is about searching out the facts for a piece; not writing a report based on existing information, but finding first person accounts. It's about a style too -- investigative writing involved a pyramid style: lead, 5 w's, less important stuff at the bottom... on the web, if you write that way chances are people won't finish reading your blog post.

Natalia Sylvester : 3 Things (I Think) I Did Right During the Agent Querying Process

You also mentioned in your first post on finding an agent that you'd found specific people who you felt would be a good match. I think that's important. Doing the research not just into the overall publishing industry but into the differences between agents, is often overlooked.

Diary of A Mad Freelancer : How to Get Yourself Fired by a Freelance Client in 6 Easy Steps

I think you've got all the steps covered - but I've got a question... When do you submit your invoice? Typically I include an invoice with the final product; then I wait 10-15 days and follow up with a gentle reminder, checking to make sure they were pleased with the final product and letting them know payment is due within 30 days of final approval. What's your method? Maybe that's another post instead of a response to a comment, but let me know. :-) curious to hear about your method.

I prefer to give in a personal way too - but I'm okay doing it in a less direct way. For example, the only charity I'll donate to is Word Vision, where you actually buy a chicken or a goat or something for a family. They break it down–your money is going here and doing this. I've also now donated twice to other blog readers–I participated in The Bloggess' massive Christmas Miracle and did something similar for another blogger, who had a regular reader who was having a really tough time; the other regular readers banded together and sent him some funds. And, of course, I donated to your Mac fund. Tbh, I much prefer that kind of giving.... someone in my community (albeit my online community) that needs help.

Diary of A Mad Freelancer : Great Expectations

Big achievements start with big dreams. I'm *expecting* to: >> integrate the gym back into my regular routine >> Get Moxy Mag to the point where we're publishing MWF >> Begin selling products and ads for Moxy (turn it into a profit making business) Hm... other than that I'm not sure yet. Guess I should take the time to really write up my own list.
Typically I agree completely with you on this, but recently I was forced to realize I *can't* do everything.
Stratejoy with Molly Mahar | Coaching, Courses & Community for Gen Y Women : Nothing a Little TV Won't Fix

Um Bones rocks. I love a little TV time now and again to clear my thoughts and get me doing something other than work work work. But I'm also careful to limit my TV-exposure or I'd get sucked into the void never to be seen again. My roommate and I don't have cable (more for financial reasons than anything else) so I use hulu. And don't let myself browse. I watch 3 shows a week - Lie to Me, Bones & Parenthood. Also, I'd love more info on that study you did during college for Moxy...

Diary of A Mad Freelancer : What Does Your Desktop Say About You?

Diary of A Mad Freelancer : What Does Your Desktop Say About You?

While this isn't about MY computer desktop, I def. agree that your desktop says a lot about you. My old boss kept EVERY file on his computer on his desktop - he didn't understand the concept of virtual files (this is the same boss who walked out pointed to a computer and asked "how do I send an email to that computer?" - and who regularly needed a tutorial on how to add attachments to his email and how to copy-paste). His desktop was COVERED. I remember thinking I could never work like that.....
