I've been using the built-in Coda stuff (which you can trick to work with SSH keys instead of passwords) and it's been completely transparent to me -- you can even drag stuff to the left panel to upload so I don't have to fire up a FTP program, having a terminal right there is handy, and I do all my SVN stuff directly from the sandbox, as God and Barry intended.

Of course we have all of those things, but even though the code was rolled back quickly it had already done damage which we had to assess and repair very deliberately, which extended the downtime beyond just rolling back the code. If you're curious, it was changeset #25,958 that caused the problem.

500/mo is the cost of a decent, single, managed server. On VIP they get hundreds of servers across multiple datacenters, which can handle basically any amount of traffic they can possible get, and are highly redundant and reliable save for when we screw the pooch like today.

We have crazy-frequent backups, especially for VIPs, which has been helpful for verifying data with this particular problem. However we have a lot of blogs, even VIP ones, and we're triple-checking everything to make sure the cure isn't worse than the problem.

As you've noticed, we've brought the vast majority of blogs back, including yours. We're currently working on bringing back the rest (including GigaOM), we have to verify their options data first, then the home page, then stats. However if you're back already like TC is everything should work as normal. The cause of the outage was a very unfortunate code change that overwrote some key options in the options table for a number of blogs. Mike and team at TC: you guys have jinxed us, but we still love you. These past two rapid-fire incidents have been cringe-worthy and painful, and I'm sorry they both happened shortly after your switch to VIP.
