First Impressions : Mansi asks: Can you forgive without forgetting?

I agree with keeping a distance. But sometimes family members can\\\'t be avoided ... and heck, what are you going to do when someone in your own family has done something so egregious that you can\\\'t bear to forgive them? It\\\'s always hard...but I guess it\\\'s experiences like these that help us mature...Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Nalini.

First Impressions : Gifts men should not give women

It's because all the Indian women I know in real life are my husband's friends' spouses. We spend a lot of time socializing together but I don't find much in common with them (sometimes there isn't anything besides our country of origin). You'd have to put yourself in my shoes to know ... which you can't, so I can empathize with your tiredness of what you think is repetitive disdain.

First Impressions : Mansi asks: Can you forgive without forgetting?

Thanks, Anahid. As Carrie points out, there are triggers to painful situations, so truly forgetting is really more of a myth, unless someone has been blessed with a really bad memory. I suppose the sooner we realize that the bitterness, anger, resentment, or disappointment is not doing us any good, the faster we allow ourselves to heal and move on...

Thanks, Yogesh. I have seen similar reactions to this question on two different sites: <a href="http://www.mahalo.com/answers/mansi-asks-can-you-forgive-without-forgetting" rel="nofollow">Mahalo</a> and <a href="http://www.theblogfrog.com/757946/forum/57142/can-you-forgive-without-forgetting.html" rel="nofollow">BlogFrog</a>. Have a look. The general consensus seems to be that people move on but don't really forget. Thanks, again, for sharing your insights.

First Impressions : From Iowa with love…

Thanks for introducing yourself, Sokhey, and for your kind words. My name may mean that I am the Goddess of Knowledge, but by no means do I live in the illusion that I know everything. I don't know how one can go about "making" another person grapple with trust issues ... they probably need to talk to someone and introspect ... be brutally honest ... to come up with the answer. As for divorce rates going up, I have my theory on that but you said you'd ask "<strong>a</strong> question" and you asked two ... so I can safely ignore the one you didn't intend to ask ;-)

Good to have you back, anon1. I was wondering where the one critical commenter I have had disappeared! I think you'll find that birds of the same feather flock together in real life -- this blog is no different. People who agree with my viewpoint and are like me visit this blog more often (and comment more) than those who do/are not. I should probably clarify in future posts that "I am not like most Indian women I know..." Would that make you happy?

Dear Paula, Thank you for sharing a part of yourself and your journey. I believe we are all shaped by the experiences we have -- good or bad. All one can hope for is a reconciliation with oneself. Thanks, again, for stopping by.
