TyB, I sincerely hope you work in a field related to zoology - your lists are brilliant! Thanks so much for taking the time to educate us a little more on how much wonderous variety there is in the animal kingdom.

When I was a kid growing up in South Texas, the story was that if a snapping turtle bit you, it wouldn't let go until it thundered. I took that as gospel and never went near anything that might be a snapping turtle, which, to me, at that time, meant any water turtle. (We also called tortoises "turtles".)

A great big THANKS for your help, Lifeschool! I'll definitely give it a look-see, but I'm hesitant about using those automatic cleaners. I've used Registry Mechanic before and didn't have much luck. Obviously, I know just enough about the registry to really screw things up, and I've heard that if you let those those kinds of programs do all they suggest, like on autopilot, you can really kill a computer easily.

Regarding that top ten list, I think that the people who appreciated it at all would REALLY appreciate it; as you mentioned, LV does have a broad fan base, and we ARE all using computers of one kind or another. Naturally, the trolls and whiners would still be out there, but there might be some good debate and ideas from people who don't agree with you entirely. I think everybody could learn something from such a list. Whether they choose to or not, we'll have to see. I hope you change your mind and decide to post it.

And thanks again for the advise.

I thought that too - the eyes were souless, those of an evil, uncaring witch, the kind that you wouldn't want to sleep with if you wanted to wake up with your wedding tackle intact.

Fascinating list. In particular, the question raised by #2, Toba Supereruption, was most interesting to me. An evolutionary bottleneck is interesting to contemplate, but I suspect such a small gene pool would have led to some extremely weird adaptations. Are we that weird? Hmmm, maybe so...

Excellent post, Lifeschool. Thanks for the tips on viruses, etc. Wish I could pick your brain about how to clean up my registry.

I think the loss of civility evidenced in blogging is a plague. I hope people aren't truly getting to be so uncivil and discourteous to each other in face to face encounters, but I suspect it will eventually spread that way, if it hasn't already. Or maybe it's the blogging itself that is the plague - here in the States (at least), liberals and conservatives bash each other incessantly, something I don't really recall from the pre-internet days, certainly not to this extent.
