If you are looking for a serious answer, it is this: the current system is in place, in part, to prevent states with smaller land-mass and population from being completely obfuscated by larger states.

The votes are deliberately slanted, and the popular vote may not result in directly determining the electoral vote. This is because the United States is a federation of states, not an empire or unitary state. The Federal government exists as a compromise agreement between the states, not as the sovereign leader of the states (despite how those running the federal government sometimes act as if it's a hegemony).

If this seems unfair, that is because you don't live in Rhode Island or a state with smaller than average population. "Getting rid of" the electoral college would effectively obliterate the smaller states or at least force the smaller states to do whatever the highest-populated states wanted. This would guarantee another American civil war, and all kinds of scenarios the alt-history nerds love. So "the system" regardless of how "corrupt" it may be, is not changing any time soon, because the current alternatives are all worse.

No, you guys, it's a CONSPIRACY. You see: if only those who like the system vote, that means PEOPLE WHO WANT TO VOTE ARE STEALING THE VOTES OF THOSE WHO DON'T WANT TO VOTE. Stick it to the man! Show those corrupt bastards by voting the CRAP out of those ballots, even if you don't want to! Flip a coin and vote for that column! Or just shut your eyes and push buttons at random! Or deliberately vote for who you think will do a worse job!

Regardless, you'll be screwing with the intentions of those who "believe in the system", and effectively cancelling out the efforts of at least one other person who actually put thought into their vote! Next time someone tries to tell you that your vote is important, let them know what you did this election and drink in their sweet despair...

Actually, I find it a relief because now Wadsworth will stop blaming himself for events that are clearly the work of monsters.

I mean, yes, Wadsworth and the Bottlefly boys now have to survive the next few pages, but at least Wadsworth now knows what's up.

Ah, yes, "universal" healthcare. So very universal that my (disabled) younger brother STILL can't get health insurance because he doesn't make enough to qualify. I do get to claim him as a dependent, which does help at tax time. But that's how it's always been, nothing to do with the current President.

So thank you Obama for literally not affecting our lives in any way, positive or negative! If someone accused you of being the most mediocre President of all time, I would disagree and then fail to think of a better example, and in the end we would both agree that someone must be more mediocre than you, but we can't think of who that might be!

It reminds me of the awesome stealth comedy in last weekend's MLP episode. (Possible spoilers: is Maud truly boring, or is she actually just as big a joker as her sister? I actually finished the episode before I was like "Wait a minute... 'Sediments make me sedimental'? SHE WAS JOKING THE ENTIRE TIME.")

I don't get it.
