It won't void the warranty as this is a built in feature that was created by Google. You do need to be careful what external apps you install as not everyone is trust worthy, however this app is perfectly safe.

It is possible to sync the address book on your Mac to Google. Personally I don't mind my contacts being synced as its perfectly safe and Google has no interest in my information and its unlikely it will ever get hacked into, however I understand that it is IT gone mad. What mail program do you use on Linux? I have a computer running Ubuntu myself as well as having a Macbook.

You shouldn't need to touch the port number as the default should be correct. You should also be able to leave the security level to as it should be set to none. Once you put in the incoming information and press next, there should ask you to set the outgoing settings. There will be a SMTP box to put the information into it.

I think it shows that Android is growing faster and faster each day. You just need to look at the mass increase of apps over the last few months and you can see that its growing really quickly.
