I associate the Awl so much with that early commenting community, and have (lazily) assumed that the quality of their content matched the (lack of) quality of their more recent comment sections. I was surprised to see an article praising them for an influential recent piece. And apparently I'm indebted to Choire for my ! usage.

And you did excel! I'm not sure I remember you from The Awl, but at The Hairpin -- gah! It was a solace, evenings after work, curling up on the couch and laughing my ass off at evil melis (and the many others who commented) while my boyfriend gave me strange looks.

I'm forever grateful for The Awl, wherefrom I found The Hairpin and therefrom I found The Toast [the Mother bless her]. But, I can't imagine going back there. The numbers! By every comment! It always felt like where the cool, funny folks hung out, and I was allowed to watch, but also always reminded that I was a latecomer. Should I get over this and actually, um, read the content?

No, he shouldn't do it if it means that much to the wife he loves and has currently. But... "And if you are letting a GHOST WEDDING effect your marriage YEARS later you really can't help anyone until you help yourself." To me, this sounds like it should be pointed at the wife, not the husband.
