9 to 5 Mac | Apple Intelligence : U.S. Cellular: iPhone isn't cutting edge enough currently to consider

The funny thing is that the only people who would care — people who want "cutting edge phones" or iPhones — are precisely the people that wouldn't fall for this crap. This isn't the same smartphone atmosphere as we had a couple of years ago. People have been burned by crappy WinMo phones or Android phones, and they'd rather pony up for something decent, which US Cellular can't offer, despite their posturing.

According to their website, their most popular phone is the HTC Hero, a two year old phone that the iPhone 3GS would run laps around. It's cute that they're pretending to be "cutting-edge", but their lineup proves that they're full of shit.

9 to 5 Mac | Apple Intelligence : Upcoming Apple TV to feature low-power Bluetooth 4.0 technology, opens door to new, more advanced in

I'm pretty sure FiOS doesn't even offer 50/50, just 50/20(maybe that's just in my region?), and that's not even their top tier offering. At any rate, why would you presume that he doesn't have it? Last I checked, it wasn't reserved for pretentious asses. I guess you couldn't spring for the 150Mbps package? Also, I just checked to see if what you were saying about the AppleTV remote app not connecting instantly when the ATV is asleep. It had less than a 1 second delay over WiFi on 5 consecutive tests(maybe you have a shit router or stupid configuration?), which is drastically faster than Siri could interpret and act upon a spoken command, though a BT remote with actual physical buttons would probably be quicker. Regardless, I don't see the point of sleep mode. The ATV2G consumes 6 watts of power regardless of whether its sleeping or not. Turn sleep off if you're having problems.

I think you're probably too dumb and arrogant to realize it, but you've made argued against your own point. Following your logic(or should I say "magical thinking"), if the iPhone 4 is the iPhone 4 because it's the 4th major redesign, then the next redesigned iPhone should be called the iPhone 5. Idiot.

You should provide a disclaimer to any comments you post regarding jailbreaking, because you clearly don't have a clue what you're talking about. You're just spreading FUD and coming across as a total moron in the process. Firecore is a perfectly legitimate developer with a pretty decent product. They do not claim that it requires "no changes to your AppleTV", you've just mangled their own words to suit your stupid argument. What they actually say is that it requires no *physical* changes, which is absolutely 100% true. You are not going to damage an ATV(or any other iOS-based device) by jailbreaking it, nor are you applying any kind of permanent "hacks" to it that are compromising the unit. The worst thing that can happen is some mismanaged resources. Reverting the unit back to factory is as simple as plugging it into a computer and restoring via iTunes. The process is perfectly safe, as evidenced by thousands and thousands of people who have gone through the process. To date, I've never heard of a single person actually bricking an iOS device by jailbreaking it.

Be aware that if you're going to install XBMC on a ATV2 with the current firmware, you will need to install a nightly build, which is, in my opinion, a dumb idea when you're also limited to a tethered jailbreak. I've had XBMC hard reset my ATV2 a few times, and it has frozen completely on a couple of other occasions, where even SSHing in and restarting it manually has been impossible. Each time, I've had to hook my ATV back up to my laptop in order to reboot it. I wouldn't recommend XBMC to anyone on ATV right now, unless they've got a lot of patience with fickle technology and are quite tech savvy. Not that I'd necessarily recommend ATV Flash over it, but it is at least a fairly stable piece of software.

Apple tried to fight jailbreaking via the court systems, and they failed. Jailbreaking does break the EULA, but it is not illegal. This is not a Psystar situation in the slightest.

I've used ATV Flash, XBMC and other jailbreak apps for the AppleTV for the better part of a year now, and it has only recently dawned on me *how much they suck*. Being able to watch video in any conceivable file format is nice, but the bugs, inconsistent UI and less than stellar interoperability with my media server ultimately turned me into a stock ATV firmware fan. I've started converting all of my videos to an iTunes/ATV friendly format and use Home Sharing to watch it on my ATV, and I've yet to experience any problems with this setup.

9 to 5 Mac | Apple Intelligence : Does the new Google Music match iTunes?

This is my biggest complaint with Google. They have many, many strengths, but absolutely no focus whatsoever. Their way of doing business is to cast as many lines as possible, in the hopes that some fish will bite. However, in their eagerness to edge their way into every conceivable market, Google often forgets to *bait* some of those lines.

It's pretty easy to "converge" on someone else's already established and extremely successful idea. This is just the result of Google trying to exert some of their muscle from the handheld market as a means to being a serious competitor in the digital media distribution market. This is business, pure and simple, and it has nothing to do with "curiosity", innovation or any of the other bizarre traits that people attempt to ascribe to corporate entities.

Listverse : Top 10 Watershed Moments In History

What about the invention of modern agriculture 10,000 years ago? That single invention put countless species into extinction or endangerment, resulted in the domestication of many previously wild animals, destroyed the habitats of thousands of others, altered the natural evolutions of previously indigenous and often useless crops, created a natural class system within the human race, creating a need for new systems of law, politics, and a completely new style of religion that was previously unnecessary. Human history as we know it sprung from one revolutionary idea, for better or worse.
