I don't see anyone high-fiving that guy. What I see is sympathy for someone who had to make a very hard call. How you can pass judgment on someone who had to decide whether or not his assailant was re-enacting the Tate-La Bianca murders in his bedroom or not before he was completely awake? I think your comments are insensitive and thoughtless in the extreme, not to mention unintelligent.

So am I. I wish she hadn't been as much as touched. That said, I can see the homeowner's predicament. If the dark shape (even a nice-smelling, obviously female and nubile dark shape) moving toward him had had a pistol somewhere on her, her cuteness would have been an interesting footnote on the article describing the inexplicable murders of the couple involved by a badly inebriated CU student. Everything considered, it's hard to argue with what the man did.

To answer your question: On August 8th, 1969, an ordinary-looking woman, Susan Atkins, helped stab Abigail Folger (a guest in Sharon Tate's home) to death; earlier, on July 25, 1969, she murdered Gary Hinman after Charles Manson cut Hinman's ear off and other tortures were done to Hinman to get him to sign over his car and money. That same night, a somewhat prettier Patricia Krenwinkel also stabbed Abigail Folger repeatedly; the next night she helped stab and torture Leno and Rosemary LaBianca to death. Knowing that, if Sharon Stone appeared at the foot of my bed in only what God gave her and kept advancing toward my wife and me despite orders to stop, you'd be able to see through the hole a clip of .40 Smith and Wesson hollowpoints made in her.

Doesn't matter. There's no way you can shoehorn this couple into being guilty because they failed to lock their front door. The Criminal Code doesn't provide for a "it was so easy I couldn't help myself, I just HAD to go inside" exception to the law against intrusion. Sure, everyone (including the couple who own the house) wishes the door had been locked. But it wasn't and the girl DID go in and did disobey commands from the owner to stop where she was. It's zero-dark thirty at night, no one's awake, and you see a dark shape coming toward you and your wife. TELL me you're going to not shoot when the dark shape keeps on coming toward you. And for all the male chauvinists saying "it was just a woman," half of Charles Manson's death squad in the Tate-La Bianca killings were women.

http://www.indesignlive.com/ : take a peek at the millennium home - sustainable architectural design, products & news | building gr

Many communities have a problem housing the homeless. At present Denver spends eighteen million dollars through a controversial private charity to house some of its homeless in hotel rooms; a significant number of people remain outdoors, camping on private property or on undeveloped city or state land (under highway overpasses, for example). This is not just a nuisance; the lack of sanitary facilites for these campers leads to human waste accumulating in these spaces - potentially a very grave public health problem. How much would a Millenium Home cost? It seems to me that for the money the city of Denver now spends putting people in seedy hotels, it could use some of the huge noise corridor around Denver International Airport as an area where our city's homeless could live in Millenium Homes until they can live more normal lives and return to full participation in society. If we could get some cost information on Millenium Homes, it would be very helpful

The "tidy BOWEL man" would have a VERY fresh start. Think about it. You're probably thinking of the "Ty-D-Bol" man, who I agree has MORE credibility than the rapid transit people do on a northwest rail corridor. He delivers reasonably clean toilets and has a very snappy wardrobe (see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iPPBnciNAqI for a clip of the famous commercial showing the correct spelling of "Ty-D-Bol" and the famous little man in his little toilet boat)

You either through ignorance or by design didn't get this part of my post: \"To the extent that officers of the law have to use force to enforce the laws against these acts, the people violating the law are responsible for the event not being peaceful.\" I was not sanctioning police brutality. I was saying that when the demonstrators smoke marijuana or refuse to disperse from an area they're forbidden to remain in (or enter into such as area after having been forbidden), then some force will be necessary, if only a hand around the upper arm of the demonstrator to move him or her out of the area. And this force is due to the demonstrator's choice to break the law, and due to no one else's choice. If you're the demonstrator breaking the law and refusing to stop breaking it - yes, you're responsible. There's no other rational way to see it.

Money talks, baby... Now, the Saudis are throwing people in jail for being Christian, as are the Egyptiians... but somehow we've overlooked that little detail. We USED to at least clear our throats about human rights abuses in countries we sell arms to, but part of "hope and change" is apparently the end of even the pretense we care about human rights.

Gandhi, Martin Luther King, Jr and other advocates of civil disobedience agree with the Supreme Court - when protesters cross the threshold between assembling in protest and violating other laws - whether violently or not - then their actions cease to be nonviolent protest. Any actions the police have to take to enforce the law, especially if resisted violently by protesters, are legitimized. It's ridiculous for the 4/20 protesters and their advocates to try and label this event as "peaceful" protest. It's manifestly not peaceful when it's all centered around public violation of a law totally unconnected with peaceful protest activity.

According to the rules of civil disobedience, when you break the law (other than by assembling where forbidden in a country which guarantees freedom of assembly) during an act of civil disobedience, you're morally and legally liable to suffer the penalties for any "extra" violations of the law (such as smoking marijuana or possessing it during the 4/20 event). To the extent that officers of the law have to use force to enforce the laws against these acts, the people violating the law are responsible for the event not being peaceful. They broke the law unnecessarily. It's on them.

Yeah. And Russian aircraft have SUCH a good performance record against American aircraft, as evidenced by the almost total losses off Iraqi-owned Soviet-built aircraft in head-to-head encounters with American and NATO fighters. As far as the "serious Russian army with 9500 nuk heads and 22,000 tanks," it's entirely possible we could neutralize that capability without recourse to a single nuclear warhead, instead using kinetic-kill weapons delivered by ICBMs or other platforms. You're living in the past, chief. But keep on living there. We actually prefer it.

DoD Buzz : Sen. Kerry Rejects McChrystal Strategy

This is a bullshyt argument and you know it. Speaking from the perspective of 2011, all Obama accomplished by demurring for months on McChrystal's requests was to get Americans and our allies unnecessarily killed. And the only reason - after the gains were realized from giving McChrystal what he wanted - for dismissing the man is that Barack Obama is a thin-skinned wuss who can't handle reading the truth about himself in print. McChrystal never advocated invading a neighboring country from the one he was making war in, as MacArthur (note the correct spelling) did. That was something the guy Obama replaced McChrystal with did, invading Pakistan.

Amazon has excellent points. Left unspoken was the issue of criminal liability for helping Assange's co-conspirator, the US Army private who stole the documents in the first place, violate the Espionage and Internal Security Acts. Amazon acted responsibly and prudently, as did every other US-based corporation which chose to not enable Wikileaks' publication of classified information.
