I took a break--went out to get the mail. I found it's lovely outside, so now I'm reading on the deck in some perfect fall weather :)

American Fairy Tales by L Frank Baum (1901)
(no review--I read it over months and didn't remember enough about all of it to feel like I could fairly review it)

This is an interesting challenge! One of my long-term reading goals is to read a book published every year from 1800-present, so the challenge fits within my goal :) But I've already created too many resolutions and decided on too many challenges to add another one for 2011 :(

If you're interested, here's a link to my blog page about my long term goal. (It also has a list of books I plan to choose from, if it might give you more ideas!) http://livethroughbooks.wordpress.com/years-of-bo...

Kirsten was my favorite American Girl, too! (My one aunt and uncle called me Kirsten, since she was my favorite--and my sisters were Felicity, Samantha, and Josefina haha) Anyways, I love different Christmas-time stories like St. Lucia and St. Nicholas stories.

This was my first Atwood, as well, and I loved it! Dystopic novels are always interesting, I think, because they're actually possible and sort of scare us into trying to never let those things come true. The next book on my pile to read is The Year of the Flood by Margaret Atwood :) (If you're interested in a quick read and another dystopic novel, I would recommend Genesis by Bernard Beckett--it was quite interesting, but very different from The Handmaid's Tale.)
