The Minority Report Blog : Breaking: No Snowe This Fall in Maine - Senator Won't Seek Re-Election

When a weathervane like her is willing to retire rather than seek re-election in Maine, conservatives should take heart. The left has done everything it could to discredit Gov. LePage, yet his support grows. It has done everything to shore up her support, to little avail. Perhaps it's finally time for a forthright conservative to announce for the seat. Maine deserves better, and so does the USA.

Big Government : A History of Failed Brokered Conventions in 1924 and 1940

Hayes was far better than he was given credit for, and far better than what Tilden would have been. Tied to the machine politics from New York and philosophically similar to Woodrow Wilson and William J. Bryan, Tilden would have led the country into far more tumultuous times than what we actually experienced. A man of his word, Hayes didn't stand for re-election in 1880.

Not for Democrats, at least, not since 1972 when George McGovern showed them how to avoid one - get the rules committee stacked with one's own supporters then re-write the rules every four years. By 2000 they had darn near every group of jackasses represented except for the four-legged kind.

Death by a thousand cuts. Ten dimes make a dollar. Incremental adoption of Marxism is the pattern, the hope of those pushing it is that you are too stupid to notice. Looks as if that theory works, by your reaction.

What about them? They chose their jobs and they know what the job involved when they applied for it. JP is right. I admire their willingness to take the risks they take, but it is not the same as serving in the military. That is a financial sacrifice for soldier and family, one that's darned difficult for all involved. Really, answer the question or respond to the remark made by the OP. Trying to switch the focus is so Democrat.

Big Government : Fast and Furious: Arizona Sheriff Paul Babeu Says Holder Has Perjured Himself

VOTE CONSERVATIVE. I grew up with this idiotic prevalent mentality in Massachusetts. The voters time and again listen to all of the solutions for graft, corruption and criminal activity by the Democrats and strip imcumbents of the power - then vote for the incumbents anyway since they can't "do anything bad" - then wonder why things keep getting worse. It doesn't work - vote the clowns out of office who appoint the clowns. If Obama has appointed Holder, why strip Obama of some power then re-elect the powerless clown?

Nicely researched and well presented. You confirm every aspect of the fiscal insanity going on in Washington, not just by the Democrats but by the spineless GOP in the House who still go along with all this.
What a crock of schumer. Lenin was an organizational genius as well, and so was Jeanne d'Arc in the 1420s. That by itself doesn't make someone worthy of elevation to the pantheon of political luminaries. Nevertheless, as is often said - one must learn about one's enemy in order to defeat him. Forget whether that was Lao Tzu or Irwin Rommel, or someone else altogether but the dictum holds. To beat thugs, one must learn their ways - for they sure won't learn (nor fight) by ours.

Big Government : For the GOP, Moderate Is the New Conservative

Not a bad analysis, but some blame has to be given the couch potatoes who rant one way but then listen to this "pragmatic" crap about how we have to vote for someone who has the best chance to win. Not a bad precept, if we establish the ground rules for winning; but then those same people listen to the media and the power brokers who direct events or spin them so that the "best able to win" get nominated. Then we get Doles and McCains, and now we appear to be getting the guy who couldn't beat McCain. Ten months before the election and all of the challengers who might have made things interesting are declared out of the running, but by whom? Five states have chosen their delegates. It certainly wasn't the voters or the party faithful who got to choose the presumptive winner. The country gets centralized health insurance forced upon them either way because Romney's nomination neutralizes the discussion. We really need to be the ones establishing our own rules of play. I am sick to death of the left cowing the right into being left-light. I want to see some fireworks, not milktoast pandering. Gingrich-West sounds pretty good right about now, or West-Gingrich.

You answered your own question. The media determine what is broadcast. Those misfits don't care about us. I've stopped watching them as a result. If the media are going to give these losers equal time to a group of people who have employed thousands with costing the taxpayer a dime, then so be it - let me know when all those losers hire someone besides an ambulance-chaser on retainer.

Big Government : Santorum Missed His Chance to Land Knockout Punch on Romney

Angry DID win votes two years ago. If people are still as or more angry now than they werre two years ago - after yet another set of broken promises - there is going to be another bunch of big-spending letist incumbents tossed out of office. Illinois union guys ought to be boiling mad that Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky has defended the Keystone pipeline cancellation, saying the 20,000 immediate and more than 55,000 indirect jobs it would create were "not that many." The president has declared all-out war on our energy industry, our health-insurance industry and people here are telling us to support a GOP version of the same thing? WHAT IS THE MATTER WITH PEOPLE? THIS is what happened when people were nice and complacent.

Nice, pleasant people got us where we are. I WANT angry. We already have the vision - God-given personal liberty, protected by the Constitution I want that preserved, and if it takes anger to accomplish that, so be it. I am angry that people keep telling us to be good little boys and girls and let the government give it to us up the backside. I'm voting for Santorum now here in Florida. I can't stand Romney's pandering and now the GOP brass in Florida are trying to push Santorum out of the race in favor of Romney. To hell with them. If we get Romney, we get Obamacare no matter what happens.

Big Government : CA Gov. Brown Shuts Down 'Recovery' Website as State Faces $21 Billion Budget Deficit, 129 Companies

This is what happens when people are willing to let leftists take over and run things. This is neither a value judgment nor partisan sniping; it's just the way it is. When you run a government on feelings and emotion, and can't say "no!" to yet another way to "help" people, you are bound for trouble. There isn't one household in a thousand that would spend like this privately. (One in five thousand, maybe, and when they do they go bankrupt.) Jerry Brown lied to you people yet again. He hasn't changed one iota in 30 years; he just came back to finish what he started. California was a basket case when my family left Washington State in 1997 for Florida. I never thought it could get even worse, but it did. I feel bad for the American citizens living there. Perhaps they could try climing some of the illegals on their tax returns, since they obviously are supporting them.

How many of those disappearing Ohio union jobs could have been saved if the union had spent that $30mill of members' dues on members' salaries, rather than on commercials purchased to defeat the legislation that could have saved union jobs? Have the rank-and-file union members yet figured out it was a buttload of their own money the union officers squandered to defeat the bill that would have kept them working?
