Some friends and I are working out something very similar. Warcaster assasination's fun, but the end of the game it should not be. Having multiple paths to victory (and different ones for each side, even!) is a great way to vary up games.

Y'know, I've played Warmachine since literally just about the day the rulebook came out, and have done so in all sorts of venues. Never once have I gotten anything less than "oh, cool" in response to a converted model.
