Great Response to my question and I also enjoyed your explication of the strong female leads ... I wish we had more time for this class because Im curious what you think about the sonnet 116. Do you think Shakespeare wrote it to his wife given that he thought less of her? I dont think he did but Im not the one to ask because im under the bias that he didnt really love her though so im not the best person to ask.

Sonnet 116
Let me not to the marriage of true minds
Admit impediments. Love is not love
Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove:
O, no! it is an ever-fixed mark,
That looks on tempests and is never shaken;
It is the star to every wandering bark,
Whose worth's unknown, although his height be taken.
Love's not Time's fool, though rosy lips and cheeks
Within his bending sickle's compass come;
Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks,
But bears it out even to the edge of doom.
If this be error and upon me proved,
I never writ, nor no man ever loved.

Great post. I really liked you last topic "product development". I had no idea Shakespeare wrote parts in plays with certain people in mind. Shakespeare also acted in his plays so ill bet he got inside info from that. I also found some gems for you on page 75 of the text book in regards to product development. In "The Late Years" it goes through how Shakespeare popular audience changed a few times and so did he. I have had to yield to the fact that Shakespeare did write for the bottom line as well as for his own artistic expression.

Hey I JUST finish updating my blog. I looked at your critique and it seems to hold true for the most part even with the update. Maybe take a second look at these two posts just to double check you feel the same after today's update.

I have read that as well and from some sonnets I cant help but think he loved his wife however from anything else I have read I cant help but think he didn't really like her. He married his wife because he had to and I just read recently that for sure he cheated on her so I lean more towards he didn't love her. I believe Shakespeare was a "skin flint that had little need for other people" just as it says in one of the biographies I read. He is the type of person that made choices for his own benefit and selfish people = no good husbands. I will say that I dont think any less oh his work though just because he wasn't the best guy.

Good explanation. I think Shakespeare was influenced by Queen Elizabeth more than we will ever really understand. I found a quote about women in a book called the Masks of Hamlet that might be useful.
"The women in the play (Hamlet), Ophelia and Gertrude, both use a type of mask to cover what is obvious in their lives, masking it so that they can continue living as if their existence was without cruelty."

YEs I have to agree with Sara .. wonderful post. I feel that Queen Elizabeth could also be included in the influences maybe? I have read in a few places that the Bard wasn't always respectful to women. This blog said that he slept around (http://shakespeare2006.net/?p=4) but im not sure if that is a rumor or not.

Here is the email for Michael Bahr bahr@bard.org. He is the education director for the Utah Shakespearean Festival. He has been very helpful for me in getting some great contacts and idea's he might be worth a shot for you . Good luck with research!
