It's such a pain! I can keep her from going crazy when I'm at home, but I know she still goes bonkers when we're out. Usually she can tell when it's us at the door, but if I come home at a weird time, or if she's been asleep, she still turns into a hellhound when I'm at the door.

It also has the added benefit of working while you're not at home. Not sure how you'd test it for effectiveness/cruelty if your pup only barks when you're out. My dog is in general pretty fearful, but it doesn't make her panic, just makes her really uncomfortable until she quiets down.

Your motivation is that you feel terrible and it's making it hard/impossible for you to function in daily life. You just want to feel better--that's enough! Any doctor that makes you justify more than that needs to be kicked to the curb.

As far as medication goes, probably it will help you deal with anxiety, which will make any challenges you face with autism easier to deal with. It probably won't be a magic bullet, but it should make things easier.

Talk to your advisor about your classes, see if you can take an Incomplete for anything you can't drop. Then you can either finish the course later, or at the least you won't have a low grade on your transcript.

Not sure how you feel about negative reinforcement, but after about 3 days of something like this, my dog did not bark at. all. when people came to the door, which is when she goes apeshit. I don't keep it on all the time because my husband sets it off too, but now all I need to do is turn it on (it makes a little beep when it goes on) and she is a Good Quiet Girl.

A facebook friend was contemplating getting some sort of vest for her dog, and (thankfully) the overwhelming response was NO NO NO, leave that to people who need them, not because you just want to take your dog shopping with you. And also karma will get you back on that one.
