Is it just me, or does the Holocaust denier friend from today's column sound like he's taken up with the Nation of Islam? The citation of Bible verses doesn't match, but everything else he's saying does.

"Nagel now confesses that he is indeed married, adding that his wife is “livid,” and “she’s been yelling at me a lot.” But he maintains that their relationship hasn’t been romantic in years."

I WONDER WHY.

I feel like this conversation really isn't complete without the full video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=liNnCKPeEv0

I wanted to be "a bohemian" up until I was fourteen! Mostly because of RENT, but still.

Speaking of r/relationships, the original iteration of this thread was bad enough but the details in the update are HORRIFYING: https://nr.reddit.com/r/relationships/comments/4o... Porn! At her grandfather's funeral!

(Although I do have to say- reading that subreddit and having gotten out of my first ever relationship about a month ago have made me realize that I . . . could easily be one of the women writing these posts. Like, all the comments are along the lines of "how could you put up with this???? but the scary thing is I could see myself putting up with it in the name of not rocking the boat/being a good girlfriend/etc.)

Profiles Theatre (the company run by an abusive gaslighting monster) is closing and I am here to dance on the ashes: http://www.chicagoreader.com/Bleader/archives/201...

Also, on the same subject, an article about why critics should have caught on sooner: http://www.chicagoreader.com/Bleader/archives/201...

The Tonys ended up being exactly what I needed yesterday- there was so much focus on kindness and inclusivity, from the opening "this could be you" song to LMM's sonnet to the opening address- it was note-perfect.

Charity and Sylvia by Rachel Hope Cleves (about a lesbian couple in colonial America and the community they were a part of), Passions Between Women by Emma Donoghue (lesbian/bisexual history of the early modern period), Outlaw Marriages by Rodger Streitmatter (profiles of various same-gender couples who contributed to American history and culture), The Girls: Sappho Goes to Hollywood by Diana McLellan (about the early history of lesbians and bisexual women in Hollywood.) I'd also second grumblyqueer's recommendation of Strangers.

Several friends on Facebook linked to this longreads piece about an actor/director who terrorized members of his company for years, and it's enraging: http://www.chicagoreader.com/chicago/profiles-the...

Ugh, I left acting precisely *because* of the unbalanced, abusive dynamic between directors and actors, and this is just the most extreme example I've encountered. (Of course, then I went into politics, and was recently told that "oh yeah, all campaign managers fuck the volunteers; everyone knows that" so I think I'm at a point where I just want to fire all men into the sun and then go live on a desert island.)
