Not sure what would be best, might need to just experiment and see which works best for what you are trying to accomplish.

You could set it to manual focus in the settings and then pre-focus but you will be stuck with a particular focus point. You could also use aperture priority mode and set it to the highest aperture number for the greatest depth of field but your focus still might shift. Its a real problem because the camera isnt really smart enough to know what it is you want to focus on.

I recommend good quality mics with XLR connections and a JuicedLink PreAmp (http://cameradojo.com/2012/10/17/review-juicedlink-ra333-preamp/) Here are some other useful links: http://cameradojo.com/2012/06/25/video-basics-for... http://cameradojo.com/2011/09/28/why-dslr-audio-r...

Camera Dojo : Mastering Your Flash 101 - High Speed Sync

Using High speed sync will cut flash power by up to 50%, adding a second speedlight will get you back to about full power. Going from 1 light to 2 lights doubles the output (increase of 1 stop). To double again you need 4, then 8.

I have never heard of Serif MoviePlus so I cant really help you there. You might want to look at Adobe Premiere Elements. H264 is an industry standard and YouTube's preferred format. When you say "jerky videos" are you referring to camera shake or stuttering on playback?

Camera Dojo : Why Shutter Speed Matters With DSLR Video

I would tend to shoot that at 60p - 1/120th shutter speed. But still, it its moving you are better to try to pan with the train to grab the detail of it. If the object would be blurry in a still at 1/50th than its going to be blurry in video.

Are you going right from the camera to YouTube? If so, don't do that. You need to edit the videos and them save them in H264 format for best results.

It IS a good camera, its just you get more camera for less with the T4i. If that isn't a showstopper you will likely be happy with it. I think you get more for your money with the Sony NEX lineup though.

Look at the Sony A99. This is a DSLR design but is a mirrorless camera. The viewfinder is actually a small monitor. You are still looking through the lens, but with advanced features.

I think the passport is because its based on the light hitting the subject. The ExpoDisc is fine if used from the subject's position towards where the camera will be. When used improperly from the position of the camera it will not be as accurate.

The RA333 is a great option. I love the control and quality. I haven't played with the video much on the NEX7 but if you can manually set the audio controls or disable AGC it is ideal, otherwise it will still give you better audio, it will just take a little more fiddling with settings to get the ideal balance.

Note really. If you start to go faster than double the frame rate you will start to get a jittery "staccato" look that isn't very pleasing to the eye. The goal is to always shoot at double the frame rate or as close as possible. 24fps = 1/50th of a second, 60fps = 1/120th second.

The conversation wasn't specific to mirrorless cameras but to high megapixel cameras. If you know you are shooting for large prints you need more megapixels. If you know you are not shooting for large prints then you have more latitude when it comes to cropping.
