I don't know if it is necessarily anti-mother so much as as pro-conflict. Most Disney movies have at LEAST one parent, if not both missing. This allows the story to unfold. Would Aladdin be on the streets if he had parents? Snow White wouldn't be vulnerable if her were living, and thus no story. Tarzan couldn't have been stranded, and Belle's mother would have made sure her father didn't end up at the Beast's castle in the first place.

Think of Harry Potter if he'd grown up happy with his parents, versus miserable with the Dursley's. Something would have been missing.

Sadly, the mother is most often the missing parent, probably because there is no way they'd allow a 16 year old to run off with a prince, but I do think Disney has improved as they've moved from standard fairy tales where someone was almost always an orphan (again, a plot device).

I will also avoid the Little Mermaid prequel. My 3-year-old hasn't really questioned where Ariel's mother is so when she imagitive plays about it, I get to be Ursula... Bwhahaha! Of course, her brother is the prince... Um..

Oh hell yes.

I love being a mother. I adore my children. But being a parent is WORK and often very messy. My children don't poop sunshine and rainbows.

And children can push a parent's button like no one else can. You have to defuse or you'll either explode or start resenting what you love.

I know we just "met", but I wanted to tell you--I get it, and it effing sucks.

I just lost my G-pa right before Thanksgiving last year. He was 89, lived a good life, blah blah..

I just miss him and want him back. What makes it worse, is we live 900 miles away but we'd gotten into town that night. I was 20 minutes away and b/c he was in the hospital and I had a cough, my family talked me out of going that night. Three hours later, and it was too late.

I knew he was sick, but I wanted that last good-bye at least. Right? Still angry. In fact, if you want too see how not alone in anger, feel free to read the link. Or not.

Writing out my anger did help, a little.

(HUGS) and I'm so sorry.

Ok, I lost my extremely long comment and now find myself not wanting to rewrite everything. I will try.

Quick sum up: Yeah for ridding world of mental health stigma. I very close friend suffers (or suffered at some point) from anxiety (and she also HATES talking on the phone and will do everything she can to do something online or via text--reading your account sounds so much like her, so rest assured, you are NOT alone), OCD, panic attacks, near suicidal depression, and now epilepsy. I try to get the word at as a support person because I find the stigma really pisses me off. To me, it's like having high blood pressure: something is off in their body chemistry and they need help to fix it.

If you're interested in reading more about how you aren't alone, feel free to check this out (I have links to her blog too).

I'm a bit confused. I've read this entry before (not that I can remember when exactly).

Glad to see you'll be making more entries. Damn you-who-sucked-me-in-before-I-knew-it-would-have-zombies.

Why did they get rid of Pop Up Video for reality TV??? I loved it, and it was the only tolerable way to watch most of the videos in existence.

I learned more random facts watching that show...

I can see your point about cupcakes only... the photo still looked really, really good.

I have avoided this show like the plague - I feel my brain cells die slow deaths when I watch most reality TV. The only exception was the first Bachelorette because my mother sucked me into it.

That being said, I find your recaps hilarious even when I have no idea who you're talking about.

It sounds like a single contestant has a brain this year. The question is, would we want someone with a brain to end up with Ben? I don't know, as I didn't watch The Bachelorette and all I remember is you talking about this Ames guy...

Suddenly I am not quite as freaked out. I mean, with Clay and a Smarty Spi-, er Tamara on the scene, surely no one will get eaten. Or shot.

Right?

I used to read this when it showed up in my inbox, my gratuitous blog reading before bed.

I can't do it anymore.

Zombies scare the crap out of me. As a former horror movie junkie, I cannot explain it. The weeks surrounding Halloween, an accidental watching of Walking Dead, and reading about Dan eating Tony... oh the nightmares.

You are now middle-of-the-day-reading.

Normally I would stop, because well....

Zombies.

But I'm sucked in and you write it so well, I can't seem to stop.

Just wanted to say that, as I typically am the silent lurker (since Ironic Mom entered Awesometown) because I despise commenting on touchpads.

Welcome to Awesometown, Ellie! I totally agree about needing humor. And Batman.

Knox, your interview questions are brilliant, as always.
