Ahh, Every Day, Some Thing Real, and Looking For Alaska. I still need to read ALL of those. *sigh* I will get around to them one day!

I don't even know what to comment. I just can't even. This post is just fabulous and perfect and something the blogosphere (and *coughs* me) really needs to hear and realize more often.

I feel the same way! When I entered book blogging, I felt SO pressured to read all these popular books because everyone else had and I wanted to join in. But there's something really fun about reviewing something you haven't seen fifty billion reviews for. I read popular stuff still, but I also like to read things that are a little more obscure. I have found some amazing books that way. Though, I can't believe that almost no one I know has read Some Quiet Place by Kelsey Sutton. A.) It has the prettiest cover art ever. B.) It was exceptionally good. I see book blogs as a way to promote these more obscure books.

Great post, Cait!

Oh goodness, Cait. These Honest YA posts never cease to amuse me. Not to mention just how accurate it always is. . . "Death DOES Have a Sense of Humor." Oh I'm dying. . . I've missed reading your blog so much. But I'm back from holiday and ready to party! The whole holiday thing really threw me off. It was only supposed to be a week but then things changed and I had to stay at someone's house the week before that. . . Internet time was so sparse. . .

It really makes no sense. I mean, fashion bloggers obviously post photos of the clothes they buy or receive. How is that any different? Personally, I enjoy seeing the photos from hauls. Some people (like Hazel) take such goooooorgeous photos of them. I enjoy photography and it makes them fun for me. Also, it's fun to see what they're reading. I mean, I'm sure we've all been jealous of people buying some book we've been wanting but don't have the paycheck for, but that's no reason to get nasty. I'm more excited for the people who get to read a book that looks tremendously awesome to me. Great post!

I relate to this so, so much. Ever since I was little, I wanted to be an author. I wrote and read all of the time. Those were my hobbies. Now it feels like I can't write anything. I have ideas, but they don't come out like they used to. It makes me so upset. It was my whole future as a little kid. Now I'm here, a teenager, and I'm having to rethink everything. Writer was how I defined myself. What am I now? I don't know. I don't want to give up on it since I think it's still a passion. I just don't know where it's going anymore. Very thought provoking post!

ARCs can be really awesome and all, but you really say it like it is. You don't always know what you're getting into, and sometimes reading them is a chore. I never request that many, but if I get really really busy? I feel like I'm drowning in whatever 2-3 I have. And if I see a bad review? Eh, it's concerning. However, if I requested it personally, I try to review it. If it's unsolicited? I feel better about DNFing. There are always going to be cases where you may want to tell the publisher that you can't do it, though. You make really great points! I don't see the point in drowning under ARCs. I like picking and choosing. (and, honestly, I don't care if I'm the first review anymore. The way I see it? If I somehow review it before the release day, I'm good. Or right after the release day.)

Oh, I agree most definitely. I wouldn't want to be either Katniss or Tris. Ugh, I'd have no idea what faction to pick if I got divergent. Knowing me, I'd be seriously tempted to stay with Abnegation and not leave my parents behind, but at the same time I'd probably want to change.

Haha, I don't know why I didn't start book blogging sooner, myself! I started blogging back when I was thirteen. At first it was nothing but random, "Hi I read a book where the character blogged so I'm trying it hi." posts. Then it eventually turned into a blog about writing, since I like to write. The blog is still out there somewhere, but I quit it for good at the beginning of last year. I was having a hard year with writing and just ran out of ideas. This was so much fun to read!

This is essentially how I feel! I've tried all of those things, skim reading, cutting out the inner monologue, etc. It just doesn't work that way for me. Reading slow helps me understand it and get the most out of a book. Sure, there has been an age and day in my life that I would read 400 pages in under 24 hours. But most of the time in life? I don't have that kind of time. Great post! Never feel bad about reading slow!
