You think God wants you to hunt people down and kill them?

You're suggesting that buying already-existing homes over new ones is a bad thing that will create shortages and excess?

Economically challenged m0r0ns? So from a thread about old growth logging, you extract that poor people like forest fires?

Anyway - I have a grandfather-in-law who is a biologist who lives in the deep forest and every year he manages it by thinning, clearing snags, and caring for his land. I'm aware of the benefit. My post is in response to the concept that without people around to manage it the Earth would just shrivel up and die - it was a snarky post meaning forest fires happen. They're supposed to. If people have to log, then log. Stop candy coating it.

What I'd love to see, personally, are jobs being created by people being hired to renovate all of the old homes that nobody wants using renewable resources as much as possible, into places that people actually want to buy and live in. It makes me sick - we have five homes for sale on our street, all of which have not been modified in forty years, so nobody wants them (I don't blame them). But instead of them being updated, builders just cleared land and constructed a bunch of brand-new gingerbread homes that (surprise!) are sitting empty.

We're just so wasteful in this country. Yeah, we depend on wood, it's a resource, but we're harvesting way more than we need (IMO), and for what we need, there are other alternatives.

Mother nature is lucky to have us here watching out for her best interests. Can't imagine how bad of shape all of these species might be in if we weren't here at all :-S

Heh, I used to live where it wasn't uncommon to reach 110-112, and while we had A/C we couldn't afford to use it. Miserable.

Not to start anything, but they do sell animal bags made from cornstarch that will break down over time. We use these at the dog park and for our cat litter (unless the dog gets in the garage first, which makes for an even easier disposal).

It's kind of a pain at first, but it's worth it. We have four of the canvas bags for groceries and stuff, rolls of the biodegradable pet bags, and we wash and reuse lunch bags unless they've been used for marinating. We go even farther than that when possible, such as buying lettuce in the plastic containers, and now we no longer need tupperware or small storage bins :-) Because of our habits we put out one standard garbage can every two weeks. It feels good, and it's worth the extra effort.
