Your shawl is beautiful! I much prefer shawls for covers than one of those apron contraptions. Do you use a sling or other carrier? I use ring slings and wraps, and they are like built in nursing covers. For church I usually use a ring sling, and then just loosen it to nurse and use it as a light cover.

All your baby prep is giving me baby fever and I already have a seven month old! All four of mine have been born in the summer, so I've never gotten to do much newborn knitting.

Apparently I have a lot to say today :) I have knit probably seven or eight of those LTK Pilot caps. I think they are fun to knit, and I think they are cutest when they are a little bit small on them so it looks more like a bonnet (maybe cuter on little girls). Very good ear and neck coverage. I like the other pilot cap patters, but I prefer them without the pointy top, and I'm not confident in my ability to round it out.

OH, and you are the perfect person to ask: I'm about to cast on a Small Things Romper and had planned to do the edging on contrast like you did. But now that I have the pattern it looks tricky. Did you have to knit with three balls at a time? I had hoped that it was picked up, but it seems like you basically have to knit intarsia.

I have three girls in a row (after my firstborn boy, but I didn't knit back then) but between this post and a similar one a few years ago, you guys are making me long for another squishy baby boy! And posts like this seriously test my resolve to not find out the gender. We haven't for any of our four, and I really, really love the anticipation and surprise, but it would be so fun to knit and plan for the baby ahead of time. I have come up with a gender-neutral palette that I do love - dove gray, natural, burgundy (madtosh tart is lovely on boys or girls), with a little green and gold - but your little boy collection here is just the sweetest! It may be a while before I have to think about this, but maybe #5 will be when we break tradition and find out :)

(it's Arielle, by the way. I made my blog name julianamama back when I was more anonymous, and now I'm stuck with it).

I'm thinking about just sending New Year's cards myself :) Losing photos is just the worse. I'm so sorry.

So I LOVE seeing your Michaelmas celebration (and am so impressed at how many beautiful things you did for it!) but I have always been so confused about this Waldorf tradition of St. Michael (and totally admit to some provincialism as I only know saint stories from my own Eastern tradition, and have not looked into other traditions). Where does the story of him slaying a dragon come from? St. George is the dragonslayer, and I don't know of any tradition of the Archangel slaying a dragon. Just curious if you know any backstory to this.

I wear/hold my babies until they won't put up with it anymore. I have had precisely one person suggest that it might not be a good idea - my aunt asked if I was worried that carrying my babies in a sling might make them never want to be put down - and that is it. Living in three different states, I have only ever heard things like, "oh she looks so cozy!" or "I love seeing babies snuggled up like that!" and never any other comment about it spoiling them! What a bizarre concept.

After all these years reading your words, it was lovely to hear from your husband and all about your dogs, even if it's about a hard time. I'm glad he's recovering!
