Hi Tamara, the illustrations are my own, but based on those published in Byblia Grammata by Maurice Dunand. It's an old book and the only one where I found any information about them. There's a copy of it in the Japhet Library in AUB (where I found it) and I expect other university libraries have it. You won't find any information online.

I wrote this article years ago and my copy of Dunand's Byblia Grammata is in another country, but I'm pretty sure the statement you quoted is a paraphrase of Dunand's own analysis, and not my own conclusion. I haven't read Diringer's book (thanks for bringing it to my attention) so I can't argue his point, not knowing if he truly derived it from Dunand's writings or is disagreeing with them.
