Shaunie, we lived in the San Joaquin Valley (Kerman and Fresno) for 20 years. We've been in the Seattle area now for another 20. I had no idea this travesty was occurring--it makes me heartsick. I so remember the days driving for miles and seeing nothing but grapevines as far as the eye could see. Fig orchards and almond orchards to the horizon. What a remarkable picture of what a foolish political policy can do....which I know was not your point. The drought and promise parallels you shared were encouraging, in spite of how things look. Very thought provoking.
