Stuff Christians Like - Jon Acuff : I can't stop watching the Old Spice Guy.

The more I watch these commercials and read about how they pulled them off, the more I'm convinced that the team behind this campaign is the Pixar of advertising.

This is multi-faceted. The things that make me feel alive are performing/recording/writing music (especially leading worship), storytelling (particularly film making), and hanging out/ministering to youth. The songwriting thing I do pretty regularly [shamelessplug] New song every week at http://www.jesusbeardbryant.com [/shamelessplug], though I only get to preform/lead worship every once in a while (lack of having other agreeable musicians to play with makes it more difficult). I'm in school for film making/audio recording, but I don't have a lot of time for the extra curricular side of it. I volunteer at my church with students (I'd do it every day if I could). I'm taking steps toward some of these things, but I'm at a point where it feels like anything I do on my own to advance these goals is a failure...but random happenstances (acts of God) seem to be happening outside of my power to send me in that direction. You'd think it would be easy having God practically carry me toward my calling(s), but honestly the lack of personal control makes it very difficult for me to submit my will to His.

So it more or less comes down to resistance against the idea that righteousness is based on election rather than morals

Why do they get divided over it? Honestly I have trouble imagining in context Esther being a "good girl", but I am interested in hearing the other side of the argument.

http://www.youseedrybones.com/ : The Gospel of Esther

I have two things to add about the purpose of the Book of Ester: 1) Marrying outside of the Jews was a big no-no for the Jews. 2) I highly doubt that when his wife refused to walk about nekkid, the King decided he needed to go find a nice, moral Jewish girl. He had tryouts, and he picked the hottest babe with the best moves. Ester HAD to have been a bit promiscuous to pass the test. I say all of this not to defame the character of Ester, but to "fame" the character of God, who continually chooses to use the sinners instead of the righteous to carry out his will. The Book of Ester is a fantastic example of that.

Jesus Beard Bryant : 52 Song Pickup #06 - No One Has a Set Time Limit

Yeah, that Foo Fighters-esque genre was sort of what I was going for with this song, though I didn't have any particular bands in mind at the time. I'll need to check out 30 Seconds to Mars. Glad you like it.

http://www.youseedrybones.com/ : A Quick Poll

I voted shorter articles and better community. Shorter articles, not because I think the long articles are bad, but because I find I have a much easier time convincing myself to sit down and read if I know it's only going to take a moment. The community one, because I think that is the strongest aspect of the site and you should play to your strengths. It would be pretty cool to have a message board or something to allow us to go into conversations a little more in depth. Here's an idea: for every song they post, OC ReMix creates a discussion thread and links to it on the song page (they actually show a preview of the thread like blog comments). Maybe you could do something similar with your articles.

http://www.youseedrybones.com/ : Why DON'T You Read the OT?

For the most part, I have trouble reading the Bible, but not the Old Testament in particular. When I read the Bible, I really don't particularly differentiate between OT and NT... actually, if anything, I have a habit of reading the OT more, just because it's bigger and has more stories and poetry than the NT, which is mostly teaching and philosophy. I DO, however, tend to skip over the laws and genealogies. It's like God put them in the Bible as punishment for The Fall.

Jesus Beard Bryant : Parable of the Lost Sheep

Yup. I've noticed that young kids tend to only care about the adult in the group, but as they grow older, they start to be more concerned with each other. I think the kids I teach are on the verge of getting to that age where they look out for each other.
