Indeed, Prof. Heidt compared conservatives in colleges to closeted homosexuals... afraid to "come out" and identify as a member of the minority, so they put on a persona of agreeing with the majority views, and only "being themselves" in private. As someone recently out of college, I can confirm that this is an apt description.

Indeed, this seems to be the case. From the NY Times: "For a tribal-moral community, the social psychologists in Dr. Haidt’s audience seemed refreshingly receptive to his argument. Some said he overstated how liberal the field is, but many agreed it should welcome more ideological diversity. A few even endorsed his call for a new affirmative-action goal: a membership that’s 10 percent conservative by 2020. The society’s executive committee didn’t endorse Dr. Haidt’s numerical goal, but it did vote to put a statement on the group’s home page welcoming psychologists with 'diverse perspectives.'" You have to admit that it's funny when someone gets hit with the Clue Bat, though.

Social conservatives argue for government enforcement and validation of their personal beliefs—larger government, in other words. I asked you to explain how asking for larger government was consistent with conservatism, you replied, in effect, by arguing that "the only true conservatives are social conservatives." I can't be the only one who thinks this argument is ridiculous.

Then again, sheer numbers do not determine the correctness of an opinion, so your argument is a red herring, at best. So... why are you afraid of a group whose conservative street cred has been proven time and again, participating in a conservative event? Why do you fixate on the "gay" part of the phrase "gay conservatives"? Heck, I'll go for two points here—in your estimation, do you even believe gay conservatives can exist? Or are they all secret progressives, just waiting to take us down from the inside?

Where do I say that I'm "liberal on social issues?" I love how you so amazingly deduce that I'm a pro-amnesty, gun-banning Commie, simply because I don't get worked up over what consenting adults do in the privacy of their bedrooms, and am unwilling to kick out pro-smaller government, pro-strong foreign policy advocates for said private activities.
