Steele has less than six months left in his term, national elections are four months away, and the primary job of the RNC chair is fundraising. Is the idea to remove Steele from the position before his term expires? While Ms. Palin is an unbelievable fundraiser, can even she make up for Steele's lackadaisical efforts inside a four-month window during which the RNC will be spending huge sums, too? Moreover, do we want the political turmoil that goes along with an ouster? Despite being well-intentioned, any idea that revolves around deposing Steele at this point in time seems ill-considered and fraught with downsides (or, at a minimum, few - if any - upsides). Removing Steele at this stage of the game is, at best, an impotent solution to the immediate problem of Steele's gaffes and his fund-raising failure. If popular sentiment desires Palin as head of the RNC, she should be solicited to submit her name for the regular RNC chair election.
