Perhaps you cannot eat ethically without being vegan, but it doesn't mean no one else can either. Ethics are a very personal matter. You can't define mine any more than I can define yours.

Yes, we can eat ethically, healthily, and be vegan - but we can also eat ethically, healthily and not be vegan. Or vegetarian for that matter (gasp). Even if you feel that the author did not quite make her point, that does not mean the point is not valid (and in her defense, it's obviously a very complex issue, hard to boil down in such a short piece, though I thought she did a good job).

Great article; I've seen all of these disconnects in action, in myself when I teach and in others. The best teachers I know don't necessarily have the most extensive training under the most famous instructors; they're the ones who are present when they teach.

#6, planned humour - definitely my downfall. I keep coming up with witty, funny things to say when I'm not teaching, but they just sound canned by the time I get to the studio. I've realized if I don't come up with it on the spot, it's just not going to work. Jokes are like egg salad; they just don't keep well.

Great piece; I'm glad to know I'm not alone. I, too, practice (and teach) yoga and also eat meat, and spend a lot of time thinking about that. I wrote something on this topic a few months ago, in response to an article in the NYT:

Yes on all counts, and I'll do a little happy dance when the infrastructure starts doing a better job of supporting bikers... but until that happens, we are still obligated to obey existing traffic laws, and this video shows why.

Also - was I the only one to notice that the biker was not wearing a helmet? Wear a helmet; heed traffic laws. It's not much to ask.

Absolutely brilliant. "Messiahs pointed to the door, but no one had the guts to leave the temple."

Very well written piece; I enjoyed reading it. Seems like over the past few weeks, there's been a lot of writing and talk about yoga and sensationalism in one form or another (moguls, advertising, naked people, etc.). This is not at all why I practice, or teach, and I suspect that's true for most practitioners and teachers. I hope this is a passing fad.
