The Wild Hunt : Paganism, Solidarity, and the Way Forward

What I meant was that the modern use of the word Pagan serves the Wiccan community well. When a Wiccan uses it to describe themselves, the person usually assume that right things about that particular Wiccan. When I, as a Reconstructionist, say I am pagan, that person automatically assume that I practice some form of witchcraft and subscribe to duotheism. I believe that mainstream Wicca differs too radically from the practice and philosophy of my path. This isn't to say that Recons should completely cast off the label, I think that we should still be considered a branch of "Pagan Religion." But we should also develop a more communicative descriptor that we could use as a better face for our movements.

I think that it's easy enough for Wiccans to chastise the Recons about casting off the pagan label, because it was designed to serve them, and it does. And although the Reconstructionist paths have originally grown out of and found their home within paganism, that label doesn't serve us anymore. We're just too different. There comes a time where we have to let go of the outdated definition and stand on our own. To gain in power/influence even Christianity had to leave behind it's status as a fringe Jewish sect.

But using the heathen cosmology to represent something that is foreign to a heathen perspective seems strange to me. Anyway, it's really of no importance.

Sorry, that was a very hastily posted comment. What I wanted to say was that i think he could of worded it better, or used a better example. Most heathens see their Gods as close to home and present in their daily lives. I feel that using Asgard as an example perhaps wasn't the best choice.

"The Gods are not just far off in Asgard, they are in our gardens and our homes." Way to alienate us heathens here. Thanks a bunch.

The Wild Hunt : Natives Against Native Religion

I think I just threw up a little in my mouth... when I think about the loss of culture that the full playing out of this situation may bring, I begin to feel physically sick. We may have promised them to govern themselves, but as citizens of Canada, I think that they must yield to the law in this matter. We are promised that we will have freedom of conscience and religion in this country. I for one hope that the Canadian government does not let this one slide. "2. Everyone has the following fundamental freedoms: (a) freedom of conscience and religion; (b) freedom of thought, belief, opinion and expression, including freedom of the press and other media of communication; (c) freedom of peaceful assembly; and (d) freedom of association."

The Wild Hunt : Counter-Point: Christians Should Take Back Christmas

As an Asatruar, this issue is a lot easier to settle. My ancestors celebrated Yule in the way many modern peoples celebrate Christmas. So most things that my family does I can participate in without a guilty conscience (until they start praying that is!) Still, the biggest difference is that gifts were given to the land spirits instead of people, but that's easy to fix: I just give gifts to both! Blessed Yule.
