Big_Daddy_Cool--you're welcome. You're going to do just fine with this JB and UL on 4.1. And most importantly--you're going to do it in a way that preserves your ability to restore, JB and UL in the future on iOS 5.x.x, when ultrasn0w is eventually updated to support beyond 5.0.

I have a 3GS (old boot ROM) now JB and UL on iOS 5.0, previously, JB and UL on 4.1-- I've never encountered a problem. These devices are like "gold" right now!

Good luck.

Toublack has laid out a great course of action for you. I just wanted to apprise you that you can also use sn0wbreeze 2.1, as well, to cook a custom ipsw, while preserving your baseband. It does a great job. Though, of course, Pwnage Tool is what is explicity supported here. Either way, you can't go wrong. I concur with Toublack, you need to scrounge up an (nonprovisioned is OK) AT&T SIM card somewhere. This shouldn't that difficult.

Do you have access to a Windows PC?

OK good. Unfortunately, you are not going to be able to restore your i4 it to iOS 5.0.0. That FW version is forever unavailable to you on that phone. Apple is no longer signing that version. Beyond that, even if you had saved SHSH Blobs for your phone, Apple has introduced a new signing regime where "the role of the 'APTicket' is changing — it’s being used much like the 'BBTicket' has always been used." (See the Dev-Team Blog post entitled "Blob monster" for a thorough explanation.)

Again, you need to determine which baseband you have, so we can talk intelligently about your situation.

Yes, unfortunately, I concur that the circumstance with your particular 3GS argues against upgrading to iOS 5.0.1.

You have a new boot ROM. What iOS version are currently on? iOS 3.1.3?

@Cuberonix,

I'm trying to help you figure out the correct course of action from here. If your primary goal is obtaining an unlock for your phone (which may or may not be possible), a tethered -jailbreak on iOS 5.0.1 IS NOT going to help you. I advise you do your "homework" before you undertake "the jailbreak."

I understand. If you want assistance, you've got to provide us with more information about your phone than you have thus far. We aren't mind readers. Without giving us the BB version, there is nothing more to talk about. Look in Settings--General--About, to find this information.

P.S.: BTW, AT&T WILL NOT factory unlock it (FUL) for you.

There is currently no software unlock available for iOS 5.0.1. What is your baseband (modem firmware) version?

@kek3,

Please understand that the text in this web page header entited "pre-QUALifier " hasn't been updated to reflect that Apple released an iOS update (5.0.1) two weeks ago. As a result, it is no longer possible to restore to iOS 5.0 because Apple is no longer signing that version. I think that's where your confusion arises from.
