I loved Rebel Belle, too, and I'm disappointed to hear that Miss Mayhem doesn't quite live up to its predecessor. One of the things that was so fun about RB was seeing how she adapted to her powers, so I had been kind of expecting this book to suffer a bit now that that element is gone. And good point about Harper and David - I hadn't even thought about how that part of the story now that their relationship has changed.

I would never pick up a movie tie-in edition over the original cover, unless I just couldn't find the original cover. (Or if the movie tie-edition is on sale at Book Outlet, and the all bets are off!)

To echo Pam above - who is buying these books? Tweens, maybe? Clearly they're selling, because publishers wouldn't keep printing them. I'm sure the Twilight books, for example, got new editions with Stewart and Pattinson on the cover, and I could see the people who went crazy over those actors wanting to buy those books.

But the Gone Girl one puzzles me. Are there people who heard about the film but weren't aware of the book going to rush out to buy the book because Ben Affleck is on the cover, when they wouldn't have bought the original cover? I also wonder about the cost. Certainly, there were design costs, but I wonder how much they had to pay Affleck, or if appearing on the book covers was part of the overall pay package he received for the film.

I loved the first two books, but I had the same problems with this one. There are SO many amazing and terrifying (or amazingly terrifying) things going on in this world, and all we get is love triangle crap. I know the love triangle has been there since the beginning, but it didn't bother me until this book. I guess it just seemed so much more pronounced here because the Evie, Death, and Jack spent so much time together. I have a feeling this will be even worse in the fourth book, and that will not make me happy.

Glad to hear that you liked this so much! I know nothing about Ethiopian history, let alone 1930's Ethiopian history, so this should make for an interesting read. The GR synopsis seems to be saying that there was a potential war between Italy and Ethiopia. Am I reading that right? If so, yikes - I am clueless. I will blame the American education system. :)

I just picked up Mosquitoland from the library today. Can't wait to read it. I'm also excited to read Simon. That one seems to be universally loved.

I'm cautiously optimistic about Rogue. Talon was my least favorite of Julie Kagawa's books, but I love her writing so much, and it would be hard to ignore one of her books.

I'm all about the hype! Without it, I would have missed out on a lot of books in the contemporary genre, which is one I struggle with. Some recent examples are Since You've Been Gone, I'll Meet You There, and Fangirl. (I haven't read E&P yet, but I hope I have a better experience than you did!) One that didn't work out for me was also Hopeless, which I thought was incredibly offensive and gross, and it turned me off the whole NA genre.

If I had to pick just one, it would be The Hunger Games. It was the series that made me realize how wonderful YA could be.

I'm looking forward to Rebel Belle. I'm first in the queue at the library for it - for some reason, I love that. :) The only thing I've read by Rachel Hawkins so far is School Spirits. I loved that, and I love the fact that this sounds so very different.

I LOVED this book. This was my favorite of the three, although with our brief peek at Winter, I have very high hopes for the final book. Thorne is hilarious, Cress is so sweet, and I'm hoping that Iko gets some romance before the end! (Is that even possible???)

DoGaM and Ruin and Rising are two of my most anticipated books of the year, let alone spring. I'm also really excited for Rebel Belle. The only thing I've read by Hawkins is School Spirits, and that was a lot of fun. I've got a Mad, Wicked Folly checked out from the library right now, and I need to get it read before it's due!
