Mando has experience as a studio musician, and experience on a number of physical instruments. That's the sort of thing hasbro producers need to be able to point to if they're asked "why'd you pick that guy?" Skill with writing songs, or with creating them with sound tools on a pc, aren't the skills hasbro would hire someone for; they've already got Ingram. Of the few people with Mando's skills, he went to the cons and made the personal connections. It's not worship, it's hiring a guy for a job.

As much as it's possible for this to go wrong (generic high school drama with ponies), there's also some serious potential for good stuff here. Being able to bring up a wider array of topics could lead to a lot of good character development - stories like "How did it work out between Big Mac and Cheerilee" or "Applebloom wants to know what her parents were like", or "the mane six go to Las Pegasus; AJ wins a drinking competition and RD loses all her money at poker". ...though I'm not holding out for that last one.
