" I might encounter a Muslim once a year; I encounter Christian proselytizing and condemnation at least a couple times a week."

For those of us living in the south, change that to 'a couple of times a day or more'!

"...to feel gratitude and have nobody to thank."

I just can't wrap my brain around this type of thinking/world view. Nonsense about my "awful" & "empty" life & lack of morals (feigned as pity or concern - "they'll pray for us") is exactly as you said: willful ignorance.

Maintaining such a level of cognitive dissonance is exhausting, mind-bending work. Just like so many de-converts, I did it for decades. I was one of them; I'm fluent in Christianese & I'm not fooled for a second. They don't truly *believe* that bullshit, but they desperately wish/hope it's true.

As it happens, I broke my leg last friday. After ortho doc put a cast on my leg & wrote me a sweet script for Vicodin - I was deeply grateful to him! I gave hearty thanks to him & his staff.

Agreed: Thanksgiving is a farce- pilgrims, indians, and maize my ass.

It's high time someone told them 'No'. Let's just hope it sticks.

From the article: "Klukowski opined that Bloomberg’s actions are some sort of affront to religion and an example of radical secularists attempting to purge religion from public life."

Persecution...so predictably hilarious.

Excellent idea. One comment and screen name per billboard so that it's large and easy to read. Much like the most recent atheist boards w/ quotes & pics from ''hometown" atheists.

Of course, the ones on a death threat billboard aren't "true Christians"..... That's how they're able to sleep at night.

A variation of #1 or an addition to it that I hear a lot:

"Secretly, atheists really do believe in god, they just want to be free to continue in their 'all sin, all the time, if it feels good do it' lifestyle w/o guilt or fear. They don't want to have to answer to god, accept his punishment and live under his will so they reject or deny him. That makes them capable of anything and dangerous to christians, family values, our faith and our young, less indoctrinated children."

This one particulary chaps my hide.

I think she means the cat's 'canine' teeth. The 'fangs' are called canine teeth.

Great job on catching this one! One of the countless and undeserved perks enjoyed by the religious. Baby steps people, baby steps. Every one of them counts.
