I have no talent for interior design. My grandmother did; as a child, I thought it was normal to redecorate the house quarterly. I loved to play with paint chips and wallpaper samples, but that has not translated into wanting to turn home decor into a major "project"! Books are decor, right?

I wish I could take off for rain!! Just the rare ice storm, where hell really does freeze over. :)

Dang, Robert Frost is a blogger! Who knew? :) I think people often quote the last bit of this without reading the whole - in fact, he says that both appear equally untrodden. The real point is that once you've made a decision, the odds of going back to that same spot in time and place are slim and none. The chances of a do-over? Not likely. Whatever path you choose will "make all the difference."

Fear of the unknown is probably essential to human survival but can also hold us back from doing things that are, in reality, fun and safe. I'll admit that I was maybe a little frustrated by the fact that my son's fear - back when I wrote this - was more powerful than his trust in me. But to some extent, that probably just indicates a strong (if not wholly appropriate) survival instinct. Fortunately, the fear was short-lived but his editorial acumen and intelligence have blossomed. He really was my first editor on this - and very little was changed after I implemented his suggestions. The publisher took it pretty much "as is"!

If there's any common theme to my writing, I guess it's "perspective." (My personal blog is called, "It's All a Matter of Perspective," and this just keeps coming up again - so I guess it was an appropriate title!)

You might enjoy this little free short Trockle story: http://jahangiri.us/kids/2010/10/02/flisgo-fish-b... It was illustrated by two adorable little boys who were fans of Trockle and thought he needed a couple of pets - a bumble bee and a fish. Trockle, of course, named them and they became friends.

So true! And as I think I said over there, courage isn't always about being fearless, but about not letting fear hold us back - it's about facing it, putting it in its place, and going forward.

I'm sure that's why I grew up self-confident and reasonably adventurous - I was an avid reader and got to try things out up in my head, a lot of times, before trying them out in real life. And learned what was possible, too.

Trockle loves to travel and visit kids all over - he also fantasizes, each year, about waking up in a Christmas stocking "hammock" slung from the mantle, so if you know of any good homes - be sure to let them know! :)

I would add one thing to this, though. Don't expect people to read your mind and know, intuitively, what you need. If your friend's transgression doesn't register on HER transgression scale, and she honestly doesn't know that she's hurt you or that you are waiting for an apology - if you believe this to be true, rather than that she's just being hateful and feels no remorse at all - then give her a chance. TALK to her and tell her that you're hurt, why you feel hurt, and what action you would deem appropriate.

Your happiness shines in this post, and in the picture that graces it. Good for you, Ntathu! Hang onto all of this wonder - hang onto it with all you've got. And any time you need inspiration or refreshing, you know how to find it, now. ;)

I remember the first time I watched a game of softball played by blind players. I can see, but can't catch a ball half as well. These athletes, with all the challenges that we think would drive us to our knees, are just amazing, showing us time and time again what is POSSIBLE - and in a sense, what is NECESSARY for the human spirit that can't be contained.
